Goodwill Week May 5-10 featuring agency tours, new program launch
SOUTH AKRON — Goodwill Industries serving Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland and Richland Counties will celebrate Goodwill Week May 5-10.
During the week, Goodwill will provide agency tours, classes and other activities at its headquarters to educate the community about its mission to help individuals prepare for, find and retain employment.
In addition, the agency will launch its new retail customer loyalty program, the Goodwill Club. Beginning May 5, customers can register at any of Goodwill’s retail stores in the five-county region to receive a Goodwill Club card.
Registration for the Goodwill Club card is free, and customers will earn one point for every dollar spent in Goodwill’s retail stores in Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland and Richland counties. After earning 100 points, members will receive a 35 percent-off discount coupon.
“We wanted a better way to reward our loyal customers for supporting Goodwill’s mission to help individuals prepare for, find and retain employment,” said Pedro Barnes, vice president, retail operations. “We truly appreciate our customers because with every $1 that is spent in the retail stores, 88 cents is invested back into supporting the mission. This program will allow customers to earn rewards faster than before.”
Goodwill Week events will take place May 6 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., May 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. and May 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 570 E. Waterloo Road.
Activities will include agency tours, refreshments, prizes, craft project demonstrations, a style challenge contest and a special fashion show at noon May 10.
Free classes also will be offered, including Résumé/Interview Tips May 6, 7 or 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. To register, call 800-989-8428.
A Thrift Shopping Basics class also will be offered. Attendees will learn thrift shopping basics from area fashion and upcycle bloggers to help save money. Tips will range from preparing for a shopping trip to the best ways to find a outfit or a special item for an upcycle project. Classes will take place May 6 from 10 to 10:30 a.m., May 7 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and May 10 from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
