FAIRLAWN — The Village at St. Edward is a residential care facility located at 3131 Smith Road in Fairlawn addressing the challenges of aging through a variety of services.

According to Shawn Allan, director of resident services, the facility was founded by the Dominican Sisters of St. Dominic, which is now called the Dominican Sisters of Peace. They are in residence at Our Lady of the Elms. The Dominican Sisters continue their ministry to the residents at the Village at St. Edward today, Allan said.

The campus community of facilities will celebrate 50 years Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. with an anniversary Mass led by the Most Rev. Richard Lennon, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.

“Here at St. Edward’s, we realize excellence through our commitment to faith-based quality care and services, respect for the individual, integrity in all matters and growth through collaboration, holding ourselves accountable for meeting the needs of those we are called to serve,” said Allan.

St. Edward offers independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care.

“We offer services and opportunities for personal growth and enrichment, and we are mindful of the needs of each individual journey in life,” said Allan.

Independent living facilities include studio, one- and two-bedroom residences, with nursing care available when needed, some housekeeping and laundry offered and an evening meal served in the dining room, which is open for several hours each evening, according to facility officials.

Assisted living includes studio and one-bedroom apartments, a 24-hour emergency call system and assistance from staff, medical monitoring, three meals served daily in the dining room and housekeeping and laundry services, according to facility officials.

Residents of these facilities are encouraged to bring personal possessions for their rooms when they move in.

According to facility officials, amenities for residents of these two facilities include a snack shop and a barbershop and salon. In addition, St. Edward’s offers a variety of activities and social programs onsite, has lake and walking trails and a chauffer available for residents who are no longer driving.

Nursing care, including private and semi-private rooms, is offered for those who need around-the-clock, skilled nursing care and observation in a “household” model with consistent caregivers, according to facility officials. There are private areas for family gatherings and group activities. Salon services are available to these residents.

Facility tours are available upon request.
