The 15-year-old business, owned by Richard Sparhawk, offers a variety of accessories for work, play and adventure use, as well as installation services.
Sparhawk said he is a small-business owner conveniently located near the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. He added he has extensive product knowledge and offers professional installation to ensure safety and competitive pricing.
“We carry reputable, reliable and quality brands,” he said. “We are the largest Thule and Yakima products dealer in the area. We also make sure all our products are installed correctly.”
Those products include roof-mounted base racks for bicycles, kayaks, skis and cargo boxes; trunk- and hitch-mounted racks for bicycles; and trailers for bicycles, kayaks and cargo boxes. The business also sells cargo boxes and baskets for the roof and rear of vehicles, as well as a full line of trailer hitches and accessories.
Sparhawk said he has designs that fit cars, SUVs and minivans. Also, many of the models are locking to provide security, and other features include soft, rubberized arms for maximum protection of items being carried, oversize buttons for easy access and aerodynamic rack styles.
He added the cargo boxes are 50 percent stiffer than others to reduce vibration, and designs and shapes are easier to access and reduce drag. The baskets offer extra cargo space on the roof to carry miscellaneous items.
A variety of truck and SUV accessories also are sold at the store. These items include various styles of racks for commercial uses and extra strong ones for heavy loads. Akron Racks also offers a variety of toolboxes, brush guards and side steps, floor and cargo liners, bed liners, caps, lids, Tonno covers and more.
In addition, the business carries snowplows and programmers.
Sparhawk said Car Gear/Akron Racks also includes the Akron Bike Center, a division that sells road, mountain and hybrid bicycles for ages 6 and older and also services them.
“I sell bicycles for comfort, sport and urban commuters,” he said. “I have 20 years [of experience] as a bike mechanic and can service any model.”
Sparhawk said he caters to riders on the Towpath and can help address problems before and when they arise.
The business is open Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment only. The business is closed on Sundays.
