GREATER AKRON — Established by one doctor in 1990 as a women’s health care practice in Hudson, The Reserve now offers cutting-edge gynecological and obstetrics care by nine certified physicians in three Summit County locations.

“We really have taken things to the next level,” said Dr. Ross Marchetta, the practice’s founder.

Marchetta specifically credits the incorporation of new technologies and “incredible customer service” to the practice’s success in the county and beyond. Marchetta said The Reserve is an area leader in minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic techniques, including the treatment of endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic pain and abnormal menstrual bleeding. Through the use of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System at the Surgery Center of Akron General Health and Wellness Center, The Reserve doctors can offer patients treatment for benign gynecological conditions with less trauma, scarring and post-operative pain and discomfort; reduced blood loss and need for a transfusion; decreased risk of infection; a shorter hospital stay; and a faster recovery and return to daily activities than typically result from an open surgical procedure. Marchetta said this is because the da Vinci System allows physicians to make small incisions and use the robotic system and video cameras to perform the operations.

He explained each surgeon is able to control surgical instruments inside the patient by sitting at a three-dimensional console that translates hand, wrist and finger movements. Together, he and Dr. George Drake III of The Reserve are the fastest growing da Vinci team in the country, performing da Vinci procedures on a regular basis and providing training to other doctors nationwide, Marchetta said.

“We have seen excellent results with the da Vinci Surgical System. It is great for the community,” he said.

Currently, patients are coming from all parts of Ohio seeking treatment from The Reserve and the da Vinci Surgical System, Marchetta said.

In addition to standard gynecological and pregnancy care, he said The Reserve offers treatments for menopause, osteoporosis and incontinence; hormone replacement therapy; counseling; care for high-risk pregnancies; standard and 3-D ultrasound and numerous additional treatments, therapies and exercise programs at the practice’s spa, The Spa at Yellow Creek, 3636 Yellow Creek Road in Bath.
