For his Eagle Scout project, Mitchell, with the assistance of his troop, assembled two benches and a sign. The sign, shown at right, marks and depicts facts about the Shagbark Hickory Tree. Mitchell, along with his troop, installed the sign and benches on Kings 8 Trail, which is located in the back of the Bath Community Activity Center on North Cleveland-Massillon Road.

Mitchell is currently home schooled as a high school senior. He is a member of Grace Church, where he is involved in the youth group along with the college group, New Perspective. He is also a student of wood sculpting and participates in a home-school soccer league.
