CSS names award honorees
DOWNTOWN AKRON — Community Support Services (CSS) honored businesses, donors and volunteers during its annual meeting April 19.
According to CSS officials, honors went to:
• General Services Administration, which was named Employer of the Year for partnering with CSS for 15 years for custodial services at the John F. Seiberling Federal Building;
• Akron Community Foundation, which was named Foundation Donor of the Year for its 2011 grant that allowed CSS to continue its efforts to expand and train staff on the techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy for persistent psychosis;
• Norma Thomas, who was named Individual Donor of the Year for her donation of time, talent and financial resources;
• Uriah Heben, who was named Volunteer of the Year for his work in assisting with the marketing and performance improvement efforts at CSS; and
• Andrea Denton, who was named Community Service Honoree of the Year for her work as an advocate for people with mental illness through her work at the Summit County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board and her role in the annual Celebration Recovery event for people with mental illnesses and their families.
CSS officials said the organization provides comprehensive treatment, rehabilitation, advocacy and support for clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
