Essex opens doors for farewell event

WEST AKRON — Essex Elementary School, which is closing at the end of the school year, opened its doors to about 100 neighbors, former students and others in the community for a farewell event May 10.

Shown at left bottom is Essex Principal Mae Walker as she welcomes alumni Bryce Harris, at left, and Ryan Hall. A farewell banner signed by students, shown at top, was posted over the front door.

The last day for the school is June 7. Students who attended the school will be split between King and Case elementary schools beginning next school year, according to Akron Public Schools officials.
