Bath trustees OK resolution to explore recreation center
Bath trustees passed a resolution supporting exploration of a Revere Local Schools area community recreation center at the regular May 21 meeting.
Board of Trustees President Becky Corbett said Bath and Richfield townships, Richfield Village and the Revere Local Schools District will form the Revere Recreation Task Force to analyze the need for a shared recreation center. The group needed approval of the resolution before it could apply for a state grant that could fund a survey of area residents, Corbett said.
“Our position is we are happy to listen to what’s happening. We are happy to support this resolution for a grant application for a survey. Beyond that, we’ll see what happens, and we will not be using any Bath Township funds specifically without the approval of our voters,” Corbett said.
Norton Police Chief Thad Hete, a Bath resident, appeared before trustees to thank Fire Chief Walter Hower and the Bath Fire Department for sending divers unsolicited to Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton to assist in recovering the body of a woman who drove her car into the park’s lake last week. Divers recovered the body from 15-20 feet of murky water, Hete said.
“It’s good to know that neighboring communities can count on Bath officials to respond in a quick and professional manner. I’m very proud of the work they do, and I’m very proud to be a citizen of Bath Township,” he said.
In other business, a grant application to help fund the Ohio Historical Marker to be placed at the Ira Road Cemetery has been denied, said Trustee Elaina Goodrich. However, Goodrich said, the Haslinger Family Foundation contributed $500 to help offset the cost, and it is possible an anonymous donor will contribute another $250, which would complete the funding. Other contributors are Heritage Corridors of Bath ($500), Bath Homeowners Association ($500), Bath Historical Society ($500) and the Bath Business Association ($250), Goodrich said. Placement of the marker is tentatively scheduled for September, she added.
Park Director Michael Rorar reported an attack May 18 on a leashed dog in the Bath Nature Preserve. Rorar said the dog was 12 feet behind its owner on a trail when it was attacked by an animal that could have been a coyote. The dog suffered one puncture wound on its rear, he added. Rorar said Bath has increased policing of the trail and is searching for a den that may be in the area of the incident. Nature Preserve visitors with dogs are urged to be aware of their surroundings and shorten dog leashes to no more than eight feet as coyotes and wild dogs fear humans, Rorar added.
In other business, trustees:
• approved the payment of $126,869 in requisitions and purchase orders;
• agreed to remove police officer Daniel Reilly from probationary status effective May 1 and increase his annual base rate of pay;
• approved an application by the Bath Fire Department for grants to cover smoke detectors, training and EMS equipment;
• approved the payment of $5,741 to Synergy LLC for boiler replacement in the administration complex;
• approved the final payment of $22,170 to Lake Erie Electric Inc. for energy-efficient lighting upgrades to the administration building; and
• accepted $894,535 in 2012 road maintenance contracts bid through the Summit County Engineer’s Office.
The Bath trustees’ next regular meeting is June 4 at 7 p.m. in the trustees’ meeting room on the lower level of the Bath Administration Building, 3864 W. Bath Road.
