On May 6, through support provided by the Theodore B. Marks B’nai B’rith Unit Fund, 17 Akron teens, along with three adults, spent four hours reviving Tikkun Village at the back of the Shaw Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Akron’s campus for the use and enjoyment of Camp JCC, Center Towers Senior Living and members of the Shaw JCC. The teens cleaned the trail, removed broken benches and built and painted a new picnic table, according to JCC officials. A group of them is shown at right.
“J-Serve was such a rewarding day for the teens of our community,” said Leah Levinstein, teen services director for the Shaw JCC. “I think they truly learned the meaning of ‘it takes a village.’ In our case, it takes a ‘village’ of teens to maintain Jewish Akron. I’m very proud of the work they have done and continue to do.”
