The event drew a number of area residents, including Springfield Parks employee Lowell Moss, shown at right bottom saluting the flags of the U.S. Armed Services.

Bob Golic, shown at left top, a retired NFL player and WNIR talk show host, was the guest speaker at the event.

Also during the ceremony, resident George Pounders, a long-time supporter of veterans, read the names of soldiers from Springfield who died in the line of duty, while Fire Department Capt. Steve Simich rang the bell for each. Pounders died two days after the event, on May 29, after dealing with health issues for several years, according to Simich.

Shown at left bottom is U.S. Marine Corps veteran Ellen Leidy playing “Taps” during the ceremony.
