NEW FRANKLIN — The third annual Portage Lakes Boating and Fishing Swap Meet, held June 2 at the Tudor House, drew a crowd of fishermen, boaters and other visitors seeking to prepare for the summer season.

“It was a family event that offered a lot of items to be sold and bought,” said Mayor Al Bollas. “It was a lot of fun.”

This year, the event also included presentations about fishing, boating and even archery.

Shown at left bottom, at right, is Jody Holloway, president of Friends of Portage Lakes State Park, sharing information about the Portage Lakes with sailboat crew member Carol Carlton.

Dale Dunleavy, an instructor at the Portage Lakes Career Center in Green, is shown at left top in the background showing a strip canoe built by his students to visitors at the event. The canoe is being raffled off to raise funds for the students’ project next year. The drawing for the canoe will take place in September. For tickets, contact the school at 330-896-8200.

The Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club, with some members pictured at right bottom, also participated in the event, offering a raffle and items for sale.

The South Shore Yacht Club, with members Eric Roberts and Guy Donatelli, shown at right top, from left, also set up displays at the event.
