Granger trustees award Stony Hill culvert project
The Granger Township Board of Trustees held a special meeting June 18 to award the Stony Hill culvert project. Of the nine bids they received, trustees, in conjunction with the Medina County Engineer’s Office, decided to go with the lowest bidder. N & N Construction, of Wakeman, submitted that offer, to do the work for $95,566, said Trustee Richard Pace. The Engineer’s Office’s estimate for the cost of the project was $118,750, he noted.
N & N’s bid was actually for $1,000 more, but the Engineer’s Office uncovered a mathematical error, added Pace. Even with the error, N & N was still the lowest bidder, according to trustees.
The project is to include: removal and partial salvage of the existing 6-by-4-foot stone box culvert; installation of a new 60-inch reinforced concrete culvert, including premium bedding and backfill, concrete headwalls, ditch enclosures, catch basins, guardrail, asphalt pavement and general excavation involving ditch realignment and fine grading; and incorporating stipulated traffic control in accordance with the specifications.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 21, according to the Engineer’s Office.
The project will be funded in part by Issue No. 1 Public Works funds, with the state paying 74 percent and the township responsible for 26 percent of the cost, according to trustees.
Also, trustees held a public hearing June 13 to consider a rezoning request from Gino and Barbara Faciana, of FEI Properties Inc., for an area on the north side of state Route 18 between Ridge and State roads. The land is currently zoned R-1 (Residential) and C-2 (General Commercial), and the proposed change is to establish a PDD (Planned Development Overlay District). The township’s zoning commission earlier recommended approval of the new district following a public hearing held by that group May 10. Trustees have now set a continuation date for their public hearing, to be held June 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Building, 3717 Ridge Road. They will have 20 days following that to make their decision on the change, they said.
