Boston trustees at the June 27 meeting reported the Summit County Engineer’s Office has, at the township’s request, closed a portion of Oak Hill Road June 22.

A landslide eroded a portion of the road, making it unsafe for traffic, according to an opinion from the Summit County Engineer’s Office. Trustees said they had not yet heard any complaints from residents regarding the closure.

Trustees said they still are waiting for a certified copy of a Summit County Council resolution approving the closure of a portion of Stanford Road. Once the certified copy of the resolution has been received, trustees can determine how the road should be terminated. Road Superintendent Tim Tesmer said the end of the road must be large enough to allow a salt truck to turn around.

In a related matter, trustees agreed to request Ohio Edison remove one streetlight from the portion of Stanford Road that will be closed.

Trustees announced the Zoning Commission will have a public hearing July 12 at 6:30 p.m. on a proposed economic development district within the township. Following the public hearing, the Zoning Commission must vote on the proposal. If approved by the Zoning Commission, the proposal would be passed on to the trustees for approval, trustees said.

Trustee Amy Anderson reported the Valley Fire District is seeking to fill two fire officer positions. She also reported the fire district’s grass fire truck purchase is in progress, and the total cost for the vehicle should be covered by the grant received by the district. She also reported the district paid $7,000 for repainting a fire engine. The district originally thought 100 percent of the repainting cost would be covered by the warranty but ultimately was liable for half the cost of repainting the engine, she said.

In other action, trustees:

• noted the Cuyahoga Falls Finance Department has been requested to investigate the lack of income tax payment to the Joint Economic Development District from Miles Auto on Akron-Cleveland Road;

• heard from Zoning Inspector Larry Sulzer that a resident who wants to establish a shooting range on his property has submitted a layout of the range. The layout is being reviewed, Sulzer said;

• learned the Road Department’s large truck is in the shop for $804 in repairs and that a fuel pump has been replaced on the township’s loader;

• said striping of the Township Hall parking lot was $400; and

• heard a request from Anderson to replace a flag pole, as it has been deemed too small to properly fly the flags currently on display.

The next regular Boston Board of Trustees meeting will be July 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the administrative offices at Boston Township Hall, located at the corner of Main Street and Riverview Road in Peninsula.
