Fireworks light up Portage Lakes

NEW FRANKLIN — Anchored boats had what might have been the best seats in the house for the annual Portage Lakes fireworks, which marked the Independence Day holiday July 1.

The fireworks display, which organizers said is the largest privately funded fireworks show in the state, took place despite a thunderstorm that made its way through the area earlier that night.
Residents also enjoyed the annual Boat Show, Boat Parade and Light Up the Lakes events in the area over the weekend.
