The Bath Township Board of Trustees, faced with a deluge of applications for its township administrator position, has bought itself some time to sift through more than 30 résumés.

At a special Aug. 9 meeting, the board appointed retiring Administrator William Snow to a seven-month interim position ending March 31. Snow is set to retire on Aug. 31.

“We have many very experienced people who have applied,” said Board of Trustees President Becky Corbett. Appointing an interim will give the board ample time to review all 33 applications, including one from Snow, who seeks to be rehired on a permanent basis, Corbett said.

Snow gave notice of his retirement in June, saying he needed to lock in his public employee’s pension. He said pending Ohio General Assembly legislation that would change the long-term payout of Ohio public employee pensions prompted his decision to retire.

Three Bath residents appeared at the board’s last regular meeting and spoke in favor of rehiring Snow. However, Corbett said several residents also had expressed “a real concern about the concept of double dipping.”

Corbett said Snow has “done a wonderful job for Bath Township,” but the board must weigh all of its options in choosing its next administrator.

“We also have to be aware we could be faced with other retirees” in similar situations, Corbett said. “We want to be sure that whatever action we take can be expanded to include other retirees.”

Corbett said it is possible a new administrator could be chosen before the end of the interim period. However, a thorough background check by the township could be a lengthy process, she added.
