Granger zoning inspector resigns
Following an executive session during the Granger Township Board of Trustees’ Sept. 12 meeting, trustees accepted Zoning Inspector Nancy West’s resignation, effective Oct. 12.
West began serving in the position in June 2006, according to Fiscal Officer Barbara Beach. She took a leave of absence from September 2010 to May 2011, and during that time, Annie George, zoning secretary and township administrative assistant, filled the role, while Marie Yambor stepped in as interim zoning secretary.
West and her husband will be wintering in Florida, noted Beach.
“I have enjoyed my time in Granger and will miss it,” said West.
Trustees are considering internal candidates for the position, said Beach.
Also at the meeting, trustees:
• accepted two cedar benches built by Eagle Scout candidate Josh Kedzior. Initially planned for Granger Park, trustees said they are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Scout’s work. Service Director Mark Novak suggested the benches be displayed in front of the Administration Building, but no decision was made.
Also, trustees accepted a check from Kedzior for the $240 he received in donations toward the project to reimburse the township for some of the $594 paid for materials.
“Thank you very much. We’re very happy with the way the project turned out,” said Trustee Richard Pace;
• heard from resident Cami Lewton, regarding her concerns about fracking in the township.
She said she is concerned her well water will become contaminated from fracking chemicals and asked trustees about their position on the subject.
“This board has heard both the pros and cons of fracking. … The way we see it, it is controlled at the state level,” said Pace;
• heard from a representative of the Medina County Auditor’s Office, who noted that two contests are currently running.
The Top Dog Essay contest, which started Sept. 7, is for all fourth-graders in the county [for more on that, see Page 32].
Also, all county residents can enter a drawing for $100 until Oct. 5 in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the office’s website, www.med inacountyauditor.org;
• noted the Auditor’s Office recently issued a warning regarding a public records scam by mail with a return address from “Local Records Office” in Columbus. The letter offers a “property profile” for an $89 processing fee, said Beach.
Medina County residents do not need this service, she said.
Property record information can be printed free by going to the “Property Search” tab on the auditor’s website.
A property owner’s deed is available in the Medina County Recorder’s Office for $2 or copies for 10 cents a page, she noted;
• heard from Fire Chief Jim Paulett that his department responded to 27 EMS calls and 10 fire calls in August; and
• set trick-or-treating for Oct. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The next regular trustees’ meeting is set for Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. in the Administration Building, 3717 Ridge Road.
