AKRON — The Women’s Endowment Fund (WEF) of Akron Community Foundation is requesting grant proposals from nonprofit organizations for programs that support social change for women and/or girls in the following areas:

√ Economic Empowerment, including entrepreneurship, asset-building and financial literacy programs, programs that create better jobs, better access to jobs, and quality, affordable child care for women and programs that enable women with children to work more productively;

√ Safety From Violence, including programs that raise awareness about violence through education, programs that prevent the occurrence and reoccurrence of violence against women and girls and programs that develop a consistent and coordinated response to violence against women and girls; and

√ Health and Wellness, including programs that raise awareness about healthy lifestyles through education and prevention, programs that support reproductive health and prevent teen pregnancies and programs that help women and girls address depression and other mental health issues.

Qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits may apply online at www.akroncf.org/applywef by 4 p.m. Nov. 15. A committee of WEF board members, donors and community leaders will review the requests. The committee might require a site visit or in-person applicant interview prior to considering a request. Grants will be announced in February. They will be awarded based on an applicant’s capacity to implement the proposed project and meet the grant’s objectives. Preference will be given to programs that involve collaboration with other agencies. Efforts to obtain matching funds are encouraged. For more information about the application process, contact John Garofalo at jgarofalo@akroncf.org or 330-436-5624.
