Akron General Women’s Board distributes funds

FAIRLAWN — Akron General Medical Center’s Women’s Board recently held its closing meeting at Fairlawn Country Club. Two new members were installed, Holly Cromwell and Rebecca Bracken-Marley, and two new provisional members were introduced, Terri Murphy and Dena Apostolis. At the same meeting, the Board distributed more than $400,000 to various Akron General departments and services. These were:

  • Eight Affinity birthing beds, $139,748;
  • Women’s Board Gala proceeds divided between the Tony Gorant Community Leadership Institute and Akron General McDowell Cancer Institute, $119,047.94;
  • Three noninvasive vents for respiratory care, $36,000;
  • Arterial Access Ultrasound System, $28,811;
  • Akron General Centennial Gala sponsorship, $25,000;
  • 33 companion phones for care management, $15,503;
  • Radiation Oncology laser system, $14,500;
  • Five tablets for placement specialists, $11,250;
  • Muffins for Mammograms, $10,000;
  • Milkshake program for Akron General Medical Center oncology unit, $7,500;
  • Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service “Joyful Taste of Life” sponsorship, $2,500;
  • Akron General McDowell Cancer Institute art therapy program, $2,000;
  • Akron General Invitational sponsorship, $500; and
  • Akron General Birthday Bash Dash T-shirts, $500.

The Akron General Women’s Board has been serving the Akron community for more than 80 years, donating more than $7 million to important hospital services and clinical programs, according to board officials. In addition, board members volunteer at the hospital, as well as serve as goodwill ambassadors for Akron General Health System.
