DOWNTOWN AKRON — Akron’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade took place March 11 and gave spectators the chance to get a head start on the holiday, which is tomorrow, March 17. Among the participants this year was the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Marching Band, which is shown above making its way down South Main Street.

Matthew Wilson, president of The University of Akron, was the honorary master of ceremonies this year. He is shown at right as he watched the parade from the reviewing stand.

Getting their share of double takes were a couple of alpacas from Gaelic Glen Alpacas of Perrysville, which are pictured below. The parade also included Irish wolfhounds.

Those who wish to celebrate with a parade on St. Patrick’s Day can head north for Cleveland’s annual parade, which begins at 1:04 p.m. on Superior Avenue at East 18th Street and will end at the intersection of Rockwell Avenue and Ontario Street. According to www.stpatricksdaycleveland.com, this is the parade’s 175th year.
