The Springfield Township Board of Trustees approved three fire department measures at the Sept. 24 meeting.

Trustees approved an appropriation of up to $1,600 for public education materials on fire prevention. The materials include pencil pouch sets, fire hats, coloring books and stickers.

According to Fire Department Capt. Steve Simich, firemedics will be visiting Springfield Elementary School classrooms to talk to children about fire prevention and distribute the materials.

Trustees also authorized an expenditure of $1,500 to complete ladder testing to begin this month through a collaborative program involving Lakemore Village, Coventry Township and the city of Green.

The fire department also received authorization to place its 1983 Pierce Arrow pumper truck on eBay. The truck is the oldest piece of equipment in the department and needed repairs exceeding the cost of its value, according to Trustee Vince Mealy.

Also at the meeting, trustees authorized Road Superintendent Richard Kaylor to seek estimates for lighting designs for the Springfield boat launch ramp in preparation for an application for an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Cooperative Boating Facility grant.

The next Springfield Board of Trustees meeting is set for Oct. 8 at Town Hall, 2491 Canfield Road.
