RICHFIELD — Students from Revere High School participated in a mock car-crash exercise May 10 to help send a message on the importance of safe driving to their fellow students. The activity took place before the school’s prom, which took place this past weekend.

Shown at right top is the scene outside the high school with “crash victim” Bobbie Beshara tending to her “son,” portrayed by George Seifert, as Brandon Peterson, portraying the “impaired driver,” goes to get his cell phone to call for help. Fire department crew members are pictured at right middle as they cover one of the victims, played by Molly Seifert, who died in the crash. Peterson is pictured at left top with an officer as he attempts to walk in a straight line during a field sobriety test.

The school’s juniors and seniors watched the scene unfold. Shown at left bottom are junior Andrew Petty and senior Kayla Schockey as they react to the exercise, which concluded with the last “victim” being placed into a Metro Life Flight helicopter, as shown at right bottom.

Following the crash scenario, students headed into the school for a mock trial that showed the consequences of drunken driving, according to Bath Police Chief Michael McNeely.

“From the feedback I got, the kids said they learned a little bit, and we had a successful prom weekend with no injuries and no arrests,” McNeely said. “They are a terrific bunch of kids.”

The exercise, which is conducted every other year at the school, was coordinated by the Bath and Richfield police and fire departments and the Revere Local School District.
