Rep. Sykes announces education funding hearing in Akron
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Vernon Sykes (D-District 44) has announced the Ohio House Special Finance Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education Funding will hold a regional committee hearing in Akron Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. The hearing, focused on categorical funding and weighted student funding, will take place in the auditorium of the Sen. Oliver R. Ocasek Government Building, 161 S. High St.
The special committee is made up of Finance Committee Chairman Ron Amstutz (R-District 3), Vice Chairman Jeffrey McClain (R-District 82), Ranking Member Sykes and state Reps. Matt Lundy (D-District 57), Debbie Phillips (D-District 92), Bill Hayes (R-District 91), Ron Maag (R-District 35) and Gerald Stebelton (R-District 5).
The purpose of the regional school funding hearings is to engage the business community, philanthropic organizations, education stakeholders and citizens in various regions of the state with respect to their ideas, concerns and issues related to kindergarten through grade 12 funding, according to Sykes’ office.
