Norton approves new staff for school year
School is nearly back in session, and the staff for the upcoming year was the main priority for the Norton City Schools Board of Education at the Aug. 19 meeting.
The board approved several changes in personnel for the new school year.
The board approved the following resignations: Elizabeth Sadlowski, Cornerstone Elementary School tutor; Dana Kelly, Norton Primary School cook; John McIntosh, Norton Middle School (NMS) tutor; and Anita Stricklen, NMS tutor.
The board also approved the hiring of: Adam Gibson, Norton High School (NHS) social studies teacher; Dana Suloff, NHS art teacher; Rachel Varga, Grill Elementary School kindergarten teacher; Meghann George, NMS tutor; David Oravec, NMS tutor; Diana Powell, Grill tutor; and Carolyn Storad, school nurse.
Michael Gosen was hired as the evening shift custodian for Grill.
Several substitutes also were hired for the year, including: Michelle Ocheltree, Stacy Kendall, Tracy Terrell, Yolanda Williams, Carylann Duncan, Jordan Edgell Martin, William Vaill, Lisa Krieger, Anastasia Bohush, Jillian Chapman, Anita Stricklen, Cheryl Baker, Justin Beard, Rebecca DeLauder and Leslie Flohr.
All new hires are pending background and license checks, when applicable.
“I would like to take a moment to welcome everyone on our new staff,” said board member Diane Farmer. “I think this will be a wonderful school year.”
In other business, the board heard from board member Pat Santelli about his work on the committee for the bond issue that is on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot. Santelli encouraged all registered voters who support this bond issue to get involved with the committee. Voters will see a proposed 36-year, 3.89-mill bond issue that would raise $22.8 million for the construction and renovation of district buildings.
“I hope people see this as a worthwhile investment in our kids’ future,” Santelli said.
The next Committee-of-the-Whole meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Administration Building, 4128 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road, and the next regular school board meeting is set for Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the NHS Media Center, 4108 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road.
