Green Primary School to raise pounds for pound animals

GREEN — Green Primary School will host a fund-raiser for the Stark County dog pound April 7-11.

Pounds for the Pound, initiated by three second-grade students, including Nicole Baker, Sophie Kestner and Kylee Malcolm, who volunteers at the pound alongside her aunt, Sandi Beard, will involve the collection of $1 donations from classrooms at the school to help animals. Classrooms that donate a total of $100 will be rewarded with an ice cream party.

The girls also will accept items from the “Sit Up and Beg Wish List” of the Friends of the Pound volunteer group. Those items include canned and bags of puppy and adult dog food, flea treatments, collars, leashes and doggie treats.

Among those donating to the effort so far are Giant Eagle in Green, Marc’s, Pet Supplies Plus, Green Animal Hospital and Angerstein Carpet.

Principal Debra Kennedy will present the collected donations to Stark County Dog Warden Evert Gibson, who will visit the school April 14.

Proceeds from the effort will benefit the dogs at the Stark County Dog Pound through vetting, sponsorship, transportation, food and medicine, according to pound officials.

Friends of the Pound volunteers work closely with the Stark County Dog Pound to help dogs find forever homes.  For more information, visit www.starkdogs.org.
