DOWNTOWN AKRON — More than 500 people attended the American Heart Association’s sixth annual Go Red for Women Luncheon May 8 at Quaker Station. According to event officials, the luncheon raised approximately $160,000 for heart and stroke research and education.

Virginia Albanese, president and CEO of FedEx Custom Critical, chaired this year’s event.

Guests of the luncheon enjoyed local exhibitors, entertainment from The University of Akron Steel Drum Band and speakers. Dr. Tara Scott, of Paragon Health Associates, discussed women’s connection to heart disease as their No. 1 killer, and advised on how to lead a healthier life. Lisa Lisson, president of FedEx Express, Canada, delivered the keynote address. She shared her family’s personal experience with heart disease and how it has shaped how she lives her life by focusing on the positive. Local survivors also spoke at the luncheon.
