Fairlawn club’s parade entry celebrates Soap Box Derby

FAIRLAWN — The Fairlawn City Women’s Club participated in Fairlawn’s Fourth of July Parade with a float themed “The All-American Soap Box Derby,” featuring Fairlawn resident Alyssa Becenti and her winning Soap Box Derby cars and trophies.

Alyssa won first place in her categories in Soap Box Derby races in 2009 through 2011. The derby is a family affair, with Alyssa’s grandfather Lowell Croskey and mother, Jill Becenti, participating during previous years. Her brother Michael Becenti will race in the derby this year.
Alyssa is shown at right, with her mother at left.
According to Fairlawn City Women’s Club officials, the float won first prize in the club category.
The club’s float chairman was Mary Ann Finelli.
