Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank

AKRON — The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is conducting the first Harvest for Hunger Virtual Idol contest. This online singing competition will raise funds to feed the hungry in the Greater Akron community through the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Each day, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and its team of supporters provide 72,000 meals to food-insecure people, according to Foodbank officials. The contest is open to all ages. To participate, contestants need to submit a 3-minute or less singing video by March 24 to the Foodbank’s website at www.akroncantonfoodbank.org. Then, the public can vote on their favorite videos by clicking the Virtual Idol link on the website from April 1 through April 30. Each vote costs $1. The video with the most votes when voting closes April 30 will be named the winner. A $5 donation can provide 20 meals. All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law, according to Foodbank officials. Besides bragging rights as being crowned the first Harvest for Hunger Virtual Idol winner, the competition champion will have the opportunity to sing during the Foodbank’s Harvest for Hunger wrap-up event, will be featured on virtu alidol.org for a year and will be included in Foodbank publicity surrounding the event. For details, call 330-535-6900 or visit the Foodbank’s website.
