Local piano students celebrate accomplishments

Carter Carlos, a junior at Walsh Jesuit High School, was awarded a diploma in Social Music in the National Piano Guild Auditions held in Akron. Carter performed a memorized program of 10 pieces chosen to meet the requirements of the National Piano Guild.
Other students who performed in the 2013 Piano Guild Auditions were Christopher Anderson, Melissa Chi, Sam Darwish, Ellen Dietrich, Simon Dietrich, Peter Feher, Jack Gaughan, Becky Jarvis, Brianna Jarvis, Michael Jorgenson, Ava Kusek, Matt Lerner, Ian Richardson, Jeremy Roth, Olivia Sucato, Camille Volk and Lauren Yee.
Christopher, a first-grader in the Revere Local School District, won the Award of Merit at the state level of judging in the PTA Reflections Fine Arts Contest with his composition “The Magical Space Adventure.” Also advancing to state judging in Reflections was Matt, a Revere seventh-grader.
Composers Ellen, a home schooled fourth-grader, and Peter, a Revere High School sophomore, won first place in the Scholastic Composers Contest with their compositions, “Moonlit Melody” and “Ballade for Flute/Violin & Piano,” respectively. Michael, a St. Hilary School sixth-grader, won second place, Matt placed third and Christopher won honorable mention in the contest. Other students who composed piano pieces include: Jack Core, Simon, Brianna, Ava Kusek, Ian, Olivia and Lauren.
Carter and Jeremy earned Superior and Excellent ratings, respectively, with piano solos at the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest in February.
