National Federation of the Blind
BARBERTON — On May 4, the local branch of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) will host a fundraiser at The Fast Lane, 193 Wooster Road N. The event will help raise funds and awareness. Individuals can bowl between noon and 3 p.m. There will be raffles and a 50/50 contest, as well. The cost of the event is $10. For details, call Bruce at 330-780-5827.
Akron Rotary Camp for Children With Special Needs
GREEN — Graphic Enterprises Office Solutions (GEI), of North Canton, will host a fundraiser for the Akron Rotary Camp for Children With Special Needs May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Legends Sports Pub and Grill, 1840 Town Park Blvd. GEI President Brian Frank and Marketing Director Denise Dennewitz will serve as guest bartenders. All tips collected will be donated to the Akron Rotary Camp in New Franklin. The camp, in cooperation with the Akron Area YMCA, offers children and adults with disabilities opportunities for camping experiences each summer.
ACCESS Homeless Shelter
DOWNTOWN AKRON — ACCESS Homeless Shelter’s Kick Up Your Heels 5K will take place May 11 at Lock 3 Park, 200 S. Main St. It will include a Stiletto Sprint, a 1 Mile Walk and a 5K Run. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Stiletto Sprint at 8:30 a.m., the 5K at 9 a.m. and the walk at 9:10 a.m. All proceeds will benefit ACCESS, a homeless shelter for women and children, according to organizers. The first 250 people who register will receive a free T-shirt and goodie bag. To register, visit www.access-shelter.org. Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center
FAIRLAWN — Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center’s Seventh Annual Hope Walk will take place May 11. Funds raised for this event allow Stewart’s Caring Place (SCP) to provide its services free of charge to those who have been affected by cancer in Summit, Medina, Portage, Stark and Wayne counties. The Hope Walk is a 2.3-mile walk starting and ending at the Fairlawn-Kiwanis Community Center and Bicentennial Park, 3486 S. Smith Road. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the walk will start at 9:15 a.m. Interested walkers can register online at www.StewartsCaringPlace.org for $15, by picking up a brochure at Stewart’s Caring Place or on walk day for $20. Sue Wilson and Tim Daugherty, from Rubber City Radio Group, are the emcees for the event, and The Swizzle Stick Band will entertain walkers with their Motown and ’60s, ’70s and ’80s hits. Local musician Zack Freidhof also will perform for walkers at the water station, donated by Wayne Homes. Cornhole, face-painting and other family fun activities will be available.
