Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
CVNP — The Second Annual CF Cycle for Life, a one-day bike ride for adults only along the Towpath Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) being hosted by the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation, is offering free online registration through July 7. The event, set for Sept. 21, is a fully supported ride with rest stops, support vehicles, prizes and more, according to organizers. There will be several new out-and-back route options (13, 26 or 65 miles), with an opportunity new this year for all cyclists to hitch a ride back to the Celebration Party at the Winking Lizard Tavern in Peninsula on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Registration is free July 4-7, $35 from July 8 to Aug. 31 and $45 Sept. 1-21. A minimum fundraising commitment is required. For details, call 216-475-CURE or visit northernoh.cff.org/cycleforlife.
CLEVELAND — Make-A-Wish® is seeking participants for its 21st Annual Medical Mutual® Cleveland Walk for Wishes® July 20 at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo; registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The event will include a 1- or 3-mile scenic walk through the zoo. A Finish Line Celebration with music, food and fun will be held. Walkers also will have the opportunity to meet Wish Families. Honorary Wish Child Jessica and her family will help kick off Walk for Wishes®. Six-year-old Jessica is battling leukemia. Jessica had her wish granted to go to Walt Disney World® Resort to meet her favorite characters. There are currently more than 130 children in Northeast Ohio waiting for their wish to come true, according to organizers. American Diabetes Association
DOWNTOWN AKRON — The American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes event raises awareness about diabetes and money to fight the disease. The event will take place Oct. 6 beginning at Quaker Square and winding through Downtown Akron. There will be a light breakfast, entertainment, music and healthy living pavilions before stepping out on the 2-mile or 4-mile route. Those who raise at least $100 will receive the 2013 commemorative Step Out T-shirt. Those who raise $200 or above will receive a special thank-you gift.
