PAWSibilities®, Humane Society of Greater Akron

BATH — Tomorrow, Sept. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m., Ken Stewart’s Lodge, 1911 N. Cleveland-Massillon Road, will host Cocktails for Paws to benefit the animals at PAWSibilities®, Humane Society of Greater Akron. Celebrity bartenders Bryan Edwards, Sarah Whitford, Nevin Nussbaum, Heather Kinaitis and Patrick Weschler will put their talents to the test to raise funds. Five percent of all bar and lounge dining sales and 50 percent of the bartenders’ tips will directly benefit the organization, according to organizers. Reservations are available for bar or lounge seating by calling Ken Stewart’s at 330-666-8881.

 

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

VALLEY VIEW — Kick-off to a Cure: Tailgate 2013, to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will take place Sept. 15 from noon to 4 p.m. at Quaker Steak & Lube, 5935 Canal Road. The Cleveland Browns will take on the Baltimore Ravens at 1:05 p.m. The event will feature an outdoor patio and tented seating with multiple big screens, along with food, drinks, an auction, raffles and tailgate items. The tailgate buffet will feature chili, wraps, sliders, wings, french fries, salads and desserts. There also will be beer, liquor drinks, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea. Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America

GREEN — Diana Schenkenberger, of Norton, is coordinating the 2013 Akron Area 5K Run & Walk for Children With Apraxia of Speech event taking place Sept. 21 at Boettler Park. To date, nearly 100 participants have raised more than $3,000. All proceeds will benefit apraxia programs and research of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA). Childhood apraxia of speech is a disorder that makes it difficult or impossible for children to accurately produce sounds, syllables and/or words, despite having a good understanding of language. The Walk for Children With Apraxia of Speech® is held as a means to heighten awareness and funding. The Akron Area 5K Run and Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech is open to all adults and children. On-site registration and check-in will begin at 9 a.m. for runners and 9:30 a.m. for walkers, with the run starting at 9:30 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in registering, making a donation or learning more about the event can contact akronapraxiawalk@gmail.com or visit the event website at secure.apraxia-kids.org/akronwalk.

Kidney Foundation of Summit County

MERRIMAN VALLEY — La Macchina Molto Bella, a car show to benefit the Kidney Foundation of Summit County, will be Sept. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Todaro’s Party Center, 1820 Akron-Peninsula Road. Organized in memory of Frank Todaro’s father, who died of kidney cancer earlier this year, the event will include exotic, muscle and classic automobiles, as well as live music, Italian food and beverages.
