American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

HIGHLAND SQUARE — In support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, DJ Mr. King will DJ for 24 consecutive hours in an effort to raise $3,000 for breast cancer research and awareness. The event, dubbed Scratchin’ to Survive, will kick off Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. at NEXT Clothing store, 837 W. Market St. Scratchin’ to Survive, which will donate all proceeds to the American Cancer Society to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, is a pledge-based event where supporters can go online (www.scratchintosurvive.com) to commit $2 per minute toward the ultimate goal. From the website, donors can track the progress of the goal, as well as stay up-to-date with news and special additions to the event. The event will conclude Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. with a special presentation to the American Cancer Society. Supporters can choose to stop by or camp out to hear a multi-genre selection of music overnight on the storefront. Restaurants in the Highland Square area will have discounted prices in support of the event, in addition to raffle drawings and giveaways at the top of every hour, according to organizers.
