RICHFIELD — A Holiday Open House and Silent Auction to benefit Richfield Police Department’s Shop With a Cop program will take place Dec. 7 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the home of Mary Serpentini, 3491 Douglas Drive.

The Shop With a Cop program offers children from disadvantaged families and military families an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts at the Wal-Mart in Stow, according to Richfield Police Department officials. The children are brought to the store and assisted in the shopping experience by police officers in their communities, and the event concludes with a pizza party for the children after their shopping is done.

In 2012, 305 children from the area participated in this program, according to Richfield Police Department officials.

The Holiday Open House and Silent Auction, hosted by Mary Serpentini’s children, Jason and Jordan Serpentini, will help raise funds that allow children to participate in the Shop With a Cop program. The event will include a silent auction with a wide selection of jewelry, visits and photos with Santa, guest appearances, live performances, food and more.

The cost to attend is a $25 donation per family at the door. Reservations are required by Nov. 30 to Mary Serpentini at 330-659-0438 with the number of adults and children attending. Valet parking will be available at the event.

In addition, raffle tickets costing $1 each or six for $5 are being sold to benefit the program. The grand prize is an Apple iPad; the first prize is a Polar Express train set; the second prize is $200; and the third prize is $100. Tickets are available through participating police departments. To buy tickets through the Richfield Police Department, call 330-659-9500.

For every $100 raised, one child can be selected to participate in the Shop With a Cop program, according to Richfield Police Department officials.

Those wishing to donate to the program can also send a check made payable to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 66 Shop With a Cop Program to 3491 Douglas Drive, Richfield, OH 44286.
