The Downtown Akron Partnership’s (DAP) Emerging Leaders group organizes the event, taking place Dec. 31 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Musica, 51 E. Market St. A preparty gets the evening started from 7 to 9 p.m. at Uncorked Wine Bar, 22 N. High St.
Kimberly Beckett, DAP’s director of business relations and liaison for the Emerging Leaders group, said Last Night Akron had a successful introduction last year.
“Over 125 people attended, and we were going for 100,” Beckett said. “This just shows us that this is something this demographic is looking for.”
The Emerging Leaders group, in existence since 2009, looks at ways to engage young professionals in the Akron area, Beckett said. Members felt like there needed to be an alternative event in Akron to appeal to that group on New Year’s Eve.
“We have First Night® Akron, which is a wonderful community event, but through surveying, we found it wasn’t the event for young professionals,” Beckett said. “That demographic tends to view it as something for families or young kids. So we thought, why don’t we put an event on for them.”
The event will include an evening of music and dancing with entertainment by Jason Christmas, The Ride and The Akronyms, as well as disc jockey Kenny Kid. Attendees will have a chance to win a variety of raffle prizes and will officially welcome the New Year with a champagne toast at midnight.
Attendees must be at least 21. Tickets are $50 presale or $60 at the door and include hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a raffle ticket. Preparty tickets are $35, and Designated Driver tickets are $25. A ticket that includes both parties is $75. Beckett said only 250 tickets will be sold.
Last Night Akron sponsors are Brouse McDowell; Roetzel & Andress; Bill Lowery, of Stouffer Realty; Acme Fresh Market; and the Greater Akron Chamber’s Young Professionals Network.
