DOWNTOWN AKRON — The Autism Society of Greater Akron will host its fourth annual race and family fun walk, Akron’s Autism 5k and Walk, June 14 at Lock 3. The presenting sponsor is once again Bevan and Associates. The race and Family Fun Walk will begin at 9 a.m. and will be kicked off by the Steel Angels, which play for the UDS-Steel Academy. Cheerleaders from Springfield’s Sparkles again will cheer on runners and walkers. After the race and walk, vendors with autism-related services will provide information on local resources. Sandwiches donated by Subway, along with Earth Fare water and Giant Eagle fruit, will be provided. Entertainment will include the Summit Academy steel band and the children’s band Zobopago. There also will be characters, bounce houses, clowns, balloons and face painting. For more information and to register, visit www.akronautism5kandwalk.org. Registration online by June 11 is $30 to run or walk the 5K course, which will be timed by the Ohio Series Challenge and include an official T-shirt and goodie bag. There is no registration fee for the Family Fun Walk; participants can receive an official T-shirt by raising $50 per individual walker. After June 11, registration for the 5K is $35 and will be available June 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lock 3. There is no 5K registration available the day of the event. Runners and walkers can also pick up their goodie bag, T-shirt and bibs at Lock 3 during this time June 13. There will be prizes for the fastest 5K male and female runners and walkers by age categories and for the top fundraisers. Akron’s Autism 5k and Walk raises money for local programs and services provided by the Autism Society of Greater Akron.
