SOUTH AKRON — Kiwanis Night With the Racers, Akron’s women’s professional fast-pitch softball team, will take place July 1, with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. at Firestone Stadium, 1575 Firestone Parkway. The Racers will face the PA Rebellion. Tickets are $7 per person. Half of all ticket proceeds will go toward The Eliminate Project, a global Kiwanis campaign to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus in children and adults in developing countries. Kiwanis International aims to raise $110 million in partnership with UNICEF by 2015 to totally eradicate maternal/neonatal tetanus, which kills one baby every nine minutes, according to Kiwanis officials. Box office hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ticket windows at Firestone Stadium also open one hour before scheduled game times. SOUTH AKRON — The third annual Akron Race for the Cure will take place July 27, with registration beginning at 6 a.m. at Firestone Stadium, 1575 Firestone Parkway. The day’s activities include the annual Kids Dash at 8 a.m., the 5K Race/Walk at 8:30 a.m. and the Survivor’s Ceremony, which will be held at Firestone Country Club at 10:15 a.m., where the 5K Race/Walk ends. According to event officials, proceeds will benefit the Northeast Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen®. The cost is $30 for general registration before race day and $35 the day of the race.
