Fundraiser for Mark Dodez

SPRINGFIELD — The Springlake Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 157 is sponsoring a fundraiser for former Springfield Police Officer Mark Dodez and his family Aug. 16. According to event officials, the fundraiser, Bands and Beers, will take place from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Johnny J’s Pub & Grill and in the parking lot of the plaza on East Waterloo and Canton roads. In March 2011, while on duty, Dodez was struck by a pickup truck while he was looking for evidence on South Arlington Road. As a result, Dodez suffered a broken arm and a serious spinal injury. Today, he is still unable to walk or work, according to event officials. Proceeds will benefit the Dodez family. The fundraiser also will include live music from Fishoil from 6 to 8 p.m. and Drunk Betty from 9 to 11 p.m. In addition, Altima Tan will present a bikini contest, with a cash prize of a three-day, two-night vacation to Reno, Nevada. Preliminary judging for the contest will take place at 8:30 p.m. and final judging will be at 11:30 p.m. Also, a raffle for a vacation for two is planned. Organizers also are looking for products and services to be offered in the raffle or a silent auction. Cash donations, which are tax deductible, will be accepted via mail at: Springlake Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 157, 2891 E. Waterloo Road, Unit E, Akron, OH 44312.
