RICHFIELD — The Cleveland Area Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group will present its 8th Annual Walk and Roll event Aug. 16 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Brushwood Pavilion of Furnace Run Metro Park, 4955 Townsend Road. A new location for this year’s event, the pavilion includes an enclosed building with air conditioning. The Fun Walk for a Cure and Awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension includes a walk, picnic, door prizes and Chinese auction. Participants can walk with or without assistance of a walker or wheelchair or have someone walk for them on a six-minute walk or longer, or attend to cheer on others. Registration is $25 per person, $45 for a family up to three and $15 for each additional family member or friend. T-shirts will be provided for registrants. BARBERTON — Rob and Lucy Staten will host a scotch doubles bowling event Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at Fast Lane, 193 Wooster Road N., to support the ALS Association. All proceeds will be donated to the ALS Association on behalf of their walk team, “4GrandpaBud,” which walks in memory of Lucy Staten’s father, Bud Miller. They will be walking in the Akron Walk to Defeat ALS Sept. 14 at Lock 3. Often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, is a progressive neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe, according to event officials. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or by emailing email@example.com. The price of the ticket includes bowling, food and chances to win prizes.
