WEST AKRON — Student, alumnae and teacher volunteers from Our Lady of the Elms come together annually to support arthritis research in Northeastern Ohio. The ladies will gather once again at the Arthritis Foundation’s Red and White on Thursday Night today, Jan. 29, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the John S. Knight Center. Student volunteers will greet guests and check their coats at this food and wine tasting event and donate all of their tips from the evening back to the Arthritis Foundation.

“These students understand that arthritis is a disease that’s bigger than they are,” said Lisa Kermizis Abraham, event co-chair and an Elms alumna.

The students are pictured at right, posing with their teacher Martha Kermizis while volunteering at last year’s event. Students and teachers attended pre-event meetings to learn about the causes of arthritis, the importance of volunteering and the programs the Arthritis Foundation offers.

Tickets cost $90 at the door. Food and wine samples will be provided by local restaurants and liquor distributors.
