Area piano students perform at Chambrel

FAIRLAWN — Piano students of Jennifer Stenroos, of Bath, performed recitals for the residents of Chambrel at Montrose in May.

Piano students performing at Chambrel, shown at right top, from left, include: Liesl Jandrey, Kate Carlos, Carter Carlos, Matt Lerner, Rachael Hudson, Sam Darwish and Jack Gaughan. 

Other students who performed include, shown at right bottom, from left: Charlie Stewart-Bates, Emma Stewart-Bates, Sylvia Stewart-Bates, Evelyn Troutman, Brianna Jarvis, Mackenzie Bowen, Rachel Travers, Jessica Fodor, Lauren Yee, Becky Jarvis and Jeremy Roth.

During the past year, the musicians participated in many events. Students participating in the National Piano Guild auditions in March were: Bowen, Carter Carlos, Kate Carlos, Darwish, Fodor, Gaughan, Hudson, Jandrey, Aaron Kofsky, Adam Kofsky, Lerner, Louis Reboudo, Roth, Charlie Stewart-Bates, Emma Stewart-Bates, Sylvia Stewart-Bates, Troutman and Yee. 

Pianists receiving superior ratings at the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest were Carter Carlos, Fodor, Gaughan and Emma Stewart-Bates. Jandrey and Troutman earned excellent ratings.

Hudson was chosen to perform in the Revere Variety Show in February.

Students offering music for the Revere Celebration of the Arts were Carter Carlos, Kate Carlos, Darwish, Becky Jarvis and Travers. 

Students who composed original music were: Bowen, Carter Carlos, Kate Carlos, Darwish, Gaughan, Hudson, Lerner, Reboudo, Emma Stewart-Bates, Charlie Stewart-Bates, Sylvia Stewart-Bates and Yee.

Winning first place and $50 awards in the 2009 Children’s Concert Society Scholastic Composers Contest were Lerner, Sylvia Stewart-Bates and Emma Stewart-Bates. Kate Carlos received third place, while Yee, Charlie Stewart-Bates, Bowen and Carter Carlos received honorable mentions. 

Fifth-grader Charlie Stewart-Bates won honorable mention in state-level judging for his piano composition in the PTA Reflections Fine Arts Contest. Also advancing to state judging in Reflections were Lerner and Carter Carlos.
