Spring Garden students build sukkah to celebrate Jewish holiday Sukkot
By Staff Writer
COPLEY — Members of the third-grade class at Spring Garden Waldorf School are shown building a sukkah to celebrate the Jewish holiday Sukkot. The holiday commemorates the 40 years that the Israelites wandered in the desert, searching for their promised land, and has evolved into a harvest festival.

The sukkah is a symbol for the small gathering place used to invite those in need to eat. In keeping with the theme of the holiday, the children were asked to bring in a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to help those in need.
Elementary-school age children at the school are introduced to stories, myths, histories, ideas, insights and religions from many cultures all over the world to reveal some aspect of people’s common humanity and a gift from each culture.
