BOSTON HEIGHTS — On Dec. 20, the Valley Fire District’s 2013 Christmas party took place at the Clarion Inn.

The Firefighter of the Year Award for 2013 went to fire/medic Mike Packard for his dedication to the fire district, and the inaugural Don Reinbolt EMS Award was presented to fire/medic Tony DeCarlo by retired Peninsula Fire Chief Don Reinbolt for DeCarlo’s excellence as an EMS provider.

Shown at right are Packard, at left, and DeCarlo.

The third award went to Fire Chief Charlie Riedel in recognition of his dedication and hard work on the proposal that brought together the Valley Fire District and the Boston Heights Fire Department to provide 24-hour fire and EMS staffing at the community fire stations for Peninsula, Boston Heights and Boston Township. [For more on that, see “Peninsula, Boston to benefit from fire district changes” in the Sept. 5, 2013, edition or visit our archives at www.akron.com.]
