AKRON: Officers have asked for assistance from the public in locating Travis Elder, 18, of Cole Avenue, on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated homicide, in connection with the shooting death of a Cuyahoga Falls man who was found dead in a parking lot on Virginia Avenue Sept. 18. An accomplice in the robbery and homicide was arrested last week.
Officers arrested a male and female on charges including aggravated robbery and having a weapon under disability (due to a previous felony conviction) Sept. 25, after the two reportedly admitted forcing their way into a Kenmore residence for the purpose of robbing the occupants.
A Cleveland man was arrested for felonious assault and discharging a firearm within the city Sept. 26 after he allegedly shot a man in the back during an argument at a party on Sumner Street. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Officers investigated three incidents of robbery in the city the afternoon of Sept. 26. One man reported he was walking to work around 1 p.m. when three males approached him from behind and demanded money. When he refused, one man pulled a gun and the victim gave them his wallet and cash. They fled on foot. Around 2 p.m. that day, a man reported two males approached him as he walked on Kline Avenue and demanded money. When the victim refused, one man pulled a gun and shot him in the arm. The suspects fled, and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. At 4:30 p.m., police were called to a Brittain Road cash advance business, where a clerk reported a man armed with a handgun entered, demanded money and fled with an undetermined amount.
Police were called to a residence Sept. 27 when several shots were fired into the home by a suspect who fled before police arrived. Officers identified the suspect, located him at a West Tallmadge Avenue residence and arrested him for firing shots into an occupied structure and carrying a concealed weapon. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.
BATH: Police patrolling Ghent Road Sept. 23 observed a male staggering in the roadway, arrested him for disorderly conduct and released him to his mother.
A man who reportedly concealed items and left a Montrose grocery store without paying for them Sept. 24 was arrested for theft, banned from the store and released with a summons to appear in court.
The manager of a Medina Road beauty supply store reported Sept. 24 a female concealed items in a bag and left without paying for them. Police stopped a vehicle that fit the description of the one the suspect had entered and found items stolen from the store. The suspect was arrested for theft, possession of criminal tools and marijuana and released with a summons. She also was banned from the store.
Police went to a Montrose bookstore Sept. 25 and confiscated a counterfeit $100 traveler’s check passed by someone who used it to pay a tab at the store’s café in June.
A bartender at a Montrose pub called police when two intoxicated males caused a disturbance among patrons Sept. 26 and attempted to start fights. Both males were arrested for disorderly conduct by intoxication and each was released with a summons.
Police are seeking two females who hit a woman with a vehicle in a Montrose parking lot following an altercation Sept. 27. The victim told police she confronted one suspect about her driving habits and the woman and a female passenger engaged in a physical altercation with her, then drove off and struck her with their vehicle.
On Sept. 27, police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at a North Cleveland-Massillon Road residence and found a male suspect in the front yard. His fiancée and male roommate were inside the residence. The suspect told police he found the two in a compromising situation, became enraged and started a physical altercation with the male. Officers determined he also assaulted the female. He was arrested for domestic violence and taken to the Summit County Jail.
Police were called to a Montrose beauty supply store Sept. 27 by a manager who reported two juvenile females were concealing items. They left before the arrival of officers, who located them in a nearby pet store and searched their purses for stolen merchandise. No merchandise from the beauty store was located, but police found a $29 dog collar, taken from the pet store, in one suspect’s purse. The store owner signed charges against the suspect, and she was charged with theft and released to her mother.
Employees of a Medina Road pub reported Sept. 28 a customer was drunk and out of control and attempting to start fights with other patrons. He was arrested for disorderly conduct by intoxication and released with a summons.
COPLEY: A Copley High School student reported Sept. 18 money and a credit card were stolen from his wallet during gym class.
Officers responded to a traffic accident on Jacoby Road Sept. 20 and observed a heavily damaged vehicle in a driveway with another damaged vehicle. Police knocked on the door of the residence, and a male reportedly cursed at them and told them to go away and he would handle things. Police asked him who was driving and he admitted he was. He appeared to be intoxicated, and when more police officers arrived, he calmed down and agreed to take a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was taken to the police station for a BAC test, charged with DUI and driven home.
Police patrolling Copley Road Sept. 20 passed a driver wanted on a warrant from Akron and turned around to pursue him. He turned around in a gas station and drove off. Officers located the vehicle at his residence on Kendall Road, and his parents said he was not home. After they were warned about charges for obstructing official business, they admitted he was there. Police cuffed the suspect and released him to Akron police.
Security agents at a Montrose home improvement store reported Sept. 21 a woman took a snow blower from the store and attempted to return it for cash. When the transaction was declined, she left with the item. Security cameras recorded the theft, and police were investigating whether she attempted to return the item to other stores in the chain.
A woman staying with a male at a Rothrock Road motel Sept. 21 called police to say she has a pending domestic violence case involving the male and she was uncomfortable staying with him. She said he threatened her in the past but not on this occasion, and she asked to be taken to a women’s shelter. Police contacted the shelter, and they were told to take the woman to St. Thomas Hospital for examination before being admitted to the shelter, which they did.
Officers patrolling Kirkwall Drive the night of Sept. 22 observed a man driving very slowly in a vehicle that had only one headlight. Police stopped him for an equipment violation. The driver attempted several times to exit the vehicle, but police told him to stay seated. He was arrested for driving under suspension and possession of marijuana. He was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a vehicle inventory revealed an item in the car.
An employee of a Montrose West Avenue restaurant reported Sept. 22 her ex-boyfriend came to the restaurant and asked if he could retrieve some items from her vehicle. She gave him permission to do so. When she returned to the vehicle after work, she found it had been scratched.
FAIRLAWN: On Sept. 13, Summit County deputies notified police they arrested a man for numerous charges of burglary and he admitted he broke into a Ghent Road hair salon Aug. 31 and stole $330. Fairlawn police charged him with breaking and entering, and he was taken to Summit County Jail.
Police arrested a Bancroft Road man for menacing, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief Sept. 19 after he threw eggs at a neighbor’s house and told police he did it in retaliation for the victims’ child causing a disturbance. The victim said his 18-month-old son fell while he was playing in the driveway and started crying. The suspect reportedly yelled at him to control his child or he would do it.
A woman reported she parked her vehicle in the driveway of her residence on Dalton Drive Sept. 22 and returned to find her wallet had been stolen by suspects who used her debit card to make five withdrawals from her bank account. Her PIN was in the wallet.
On Sept. 22, security agents at a West Market Street discount store observed a man as he took a $10 item from a shelf, removed it from the box and placed it on a shelf, then filled the box with merchandise worth $305, taped it and attempted to purchase it for $10. When security agents confronted him, he dropped the box and ran. Police located him as he exited a nearby grocery store. He was arrested for theft, banned from the store and released with a summons to appear in court.
An Orrville woman and her daughter were arrested for theft Sept. 22 after they reportedly concealed merchandise and left a West Market Street discount store without paying for it. Police retrieved merchandise, worth $101, from one suspect and merchandise totaling $13 from her daughter and returned it to the store. The two were charged with theft, and each was released with a summons.
The manager of a Shiawassee Avenue travel agency reported Sept. 23 a woman paid for two round-trip airline tickets by writing a check for $1,775, which was returned for insufficient funds. Attempts to contact the suspect have failed.
After a Copley man reported his credit card was used to make unauthorized purchases at two Fairlawn gas stations Sept. 22, police contacted the suspect’s son, who reportedly admitted using the card. Officers signed a warrant for two counts of misuse of a credit card, and the suspect surrendered Sept. 24.
On Sept. 25, security agents at a department store observed a woman enter a fitting room carrying numerous items and exit without the items. She was recorded on a security camera as she left the store with a stroller and diaper bag, which contained the stolen merchandise. She was stopped as she entered another store and detained until police arrived, arrested her for theft, retrieved the stolen items, banned her from the store and released her with a summons.
Suspects smashed the glass door of a record store on West Market Street Sept. 25 and stole numerous items from a display case.
NORTON: Suspects broke into a vehicle outside a Flesher Drive residence the night of Sept. 21 and stole a wallet and checkbook.
Police arrested a 16-year-old male on two counts of domestic violence Sept. 23 for injuring his mother and stepfather at their Brookside Drive residence.
A Norton Avenue woman reported Sept. 23 she loaned her car to a woman, who failed to return it, and she later learned the car was found abandoned in Uniontown after it was used in the commission of a felony. In addition, while the victim went to retrieve her car, her residence was ransacked.
The owner of a farm on Greenwich Road reported Sept. 24 a gasoline-powered golf cart was stolen from his property.
Officers charged an inmate of Summit County Jail with menacing by stalking, violation of a protection order and intimidation of a crime victim Sept. 24 after the suspect sent a letter to an employee of a Wadsworth Road gas station telling her to drop charges against him. The suspect has been warned about sending letters to the victim, according to police.
Suspects scratched obscene words into the door of a vehicle on Hillcrest Avenue the night of Sept. 24, smashed a window and attempted to remove the stereo.
On Sept. 25, police were called to a Norton Avenue location, where a highly intoxicated male was punching walls and causing a disturbance inside a trailer. The suspect was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and underage drinking and taken to Barberton Citizens Hospital for treatment of injuries to his hands and arms.
An Albert Avenue woman reported her husband threatened to slash her throat during a party at their residence Sept. 27. The suspect reportedly told several witnesses at the party and later repeated the threat to the victim. He was arrested for domestic violence, taken to Norton Jail and transported to the Summit County Jail.
The owner of a Heritage Parkway business reported Sept. 27 suspects entered the business during the previous night, ransacked a filing cabinet and stole two diamond rings from a desk drawer and three toolboxes and tools.
RICHFIELD: Police officers patrolling Interstate 77 Sept. 12 stopped a motorist for lane violations, arrested him for driving under suspension and booked him into Richfield Jail.
On Sept. 14, officers stopped a driver for speeding on I-77. A passenger in the vehicle admitted possession of a small bag of marijuana. The driver denied having contraband, and a K-9 officer alerted police to the presence of drugs near the driver’s door of the vehicle. Police found a drug pipe and 112 grams of marijuana in a space by the driver’s door handle. He was charged with possession of more than 100 grams of marijuana and released on a cash bond.
Officers investigated a suspicious vehicle with its engine running parked at the intersection of Interstate 271 and Streetsboro Road Sept. 14. Police found a male asleep in the vehicle. He reportedly admitted consuming five or six beers, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI and released on a cash bond. His BAC tested .119.
Police, called to a fight at a Brecksville Road bar Sept. 14, arrived to find a large crowd of people in the parking lot. Officers determined one male had thrown a liquor glass at another male, who sustained a laceration over his eye. The victim declined medical attention, and the suspect was charged with assault and released with a summons to appear in court.
The owner of a business near the intersection of Streetsboro Road and I-271 reported Sept. 18 suspects stole three catalytic converters from trucks outside the business the previous night.
A Richlawn Drive woman reported Sept. 19 her debit card was stolen and $60 was withdrawn from her bank account.
