AKRON: Police are investigating a robbery at a Romig Road bank Oct. 29. Employees reported a male entered around 11 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money, then left with an undetermined amount.
On Oct. 30, the Akron Police Department’s Narcotics Unit served a search warrant at 745 Frederick Blvd. and arrested a 21-year-old resident. He was charged with possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs. Seized during the raid were 25 grams of crack cocaine, worth approximately $2,500; 6 grams of powdered cocaine worth approximately $600; $450 in U.S. currency; a sawed-off shotgun; and a loaded revolver. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.
Employees of a Vernon Odom Boulevard auto parts store reported they saw a man wearing a Halloween mask walking around the business around closing time Oct. 31. They noticed a window was broken and saw the man inside the business, running toward them carrying a gun. He demanded money and left with an undetermined amount.
Police investigated a shooting outside a bar on Rhodes Avenue Oct. 31, when a 23-year-old man was shot in the back and transported to Akron General Medical Center for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
On Nov. 1, police raided a meth lab on Portage Path. Officers served a search warrant at a residence and arrested two males and a female on charges including manufacturing methamphetamine, illegal possession of chemicals, possession of criminal tools, having weapons under disability (due to a prior felony offense) possession of drugs and paraphernalia and child endangering. Officers confiscated chemicals, tools and a stolen .357 Magnum pistol. There were two young children at the residence.
Officers attempted to stop a man on Cadillac Boulevard but he fled on foot after they tried to serve him with a bicycle violation Nov. 2. During the pursuit, the suspect dropped a bag containing a rifle and items stolen during a burglary allegedly committed minutes before police stopped him.
A Copley man stopped for a traffic violation Nov. 2 was arrested for driving under suspension and also charged with possession of heroin when police found it in his pocket.
BATH: Police patrolling a Beggar’s Night event on Harmony Hills Drive Oct. 26 stopped the driver of a pickup truck that was traveling on the wrong side of the road with two small children riding on the tailgate. Police called a relative to take the children from the scene and then administered a field sobriety test to the driver. He failed it and was charged with DUI and endangering children. His BAC tested .176.
A woman reported Oct. 26 her purse was stolen from the back of a stroller while she was putting her child in her vehicle in a Montrose parking lot.
Police stopped the driver of a pickup truck with a loud exhaust system on Medina Road Oct. 27 and charged him with driving under suspension. His vehicle was towed.
Suspects entered a Highlands Drive residence through an unlocked door Oct. 27 while a resident was in another room and stole a laptop computer.
On Oct. 29, police were called to a North Cleveland-Massillon Road residence where a man reported his former roommate showed up and physically attacked him. During a struggle, the two fell on a glass coffee table, and the victim sustained minor lacerations. The victim declined medical attention, and police arrested the suspect, who had been issued a warning to stay away from the residence Oct. 18, following an earlier incident.
Two bicycles were stolen from an unlocked shed on Mackinaw Avenue Oct. 30.
Police and the FBI are investigating the robbery of a Springside Drive bank Oct. 30, when a man entered at 11:21 a.m., showed a teller a cardboard sign demanding money and fled with an undetermined amount. He was last seen running across a gas station parking lot.
Suspects stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked outside a Springside Drive office building Oct. 31.
Officers were called to a Montrose fast-food restaurant Nov. 1 after an intoxicated driver reportedly crashed into a vehicle in the drive-through lane. Police stopped the driver as he drove on North Cleveland-Massillon Road. He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI and driving under suspension.
COPLEY: An Earhart Avenue woman reported Oct. 21 suspects stole a lawnmower from an unlocked shed on her property.
Suspects kicked open the door of a Collier Road business Oct. 22 and stole numerous saws, grinders, drills, an air compressor worth around $7,000 and a $1,000 laser tool.
Police patrolling Rothrock Road Oct. 24 located a vehicle in a motel parking lot and determined its owner was wanted on a warrant from Brookpark. Officers knocked on the door of a room where the suspect was staying and used a passkey to enter when the suspect failed to open the door. The suspect was passed out. Police woke him, released him to Brookpark police and confiscated a substance, believed to be counterfeit cocaine, from the room.
An employee of a Montrose restaurant reported Oct. 24 a co-worker hit him while he was working in the kitchen. Officers interviewed the suspect, who denied the allegations. The victim was referred to the prosecutor’s office.
A woman reported her purse, containing money, debit cards, a checkbook, digital camera and identification, was stolen from her vehicle while it was parked outside a Copley Road store Oct. 25.
Officers are seeking suspects who used a baseball bat to damage a mailbox outside a residence on Kindig Spur Oct. 27.
A Kibler Road man reported Oct. 27 his vehicle was scratched while it was parked in the lot of his apartment complex.
A customer of a Rothrock Road electronics store reported suspects stole a laptop computer from his vehicle Oct. 27 while he was in the store.
Police were called to a Rothrock Road motel Oct. 28 to investigate possible drug activity. Officers observed three males and a female and stopped their vehicle on Springside Drive. The female driving the vehicle had no license, and a male passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana. All four occupants said they had no knowledge of a stolen credit card that was found in the vehicle during a tow inventory. Police are investigating.
On Oct. 29, officers went to a Rothrock Road motel to arrest a man on a warrant for driving under suspension and charged him with possession of a small amount of marijuana found in the room.
FAIRLAWN: Police recovered a bicycle stolen from a storage unit on Bancroft Road Oct. 24 after a Chamberlain Road woman found the bike lying on her front lawn.
A Park Hill Drive resident reported Oct. 26 suspects broke into a storage unit and stole clothing, toys, music CDs and other items.
Employees of a mall automotive service center reported Oct. 27 that someone had stolen the catalytic converter from a vehicle that had been left there for service.
An Owasso Avenue man reported suspects entered the garage of his residence through an unlocked side door during the night Oct. 28 and stole a snowblower and pressure washer.
Suspects stole the catalytic converter from a vehicle in the parking lot of a South Cleveland-Massillon Road business Oct. 28.
The night of Oct. 28, suspects entered the garage of a residence on Mackinaw Avenue through an unlocked side door and stole two rifles, a drill and a BB gun.
On Oct. 30, a woman reported suspects stole a bronze vase from her mother’s grave at a West Market Street cemetery.
Police responded to a fight at a Sawgrass Drive residence Oct. 31 and arrived to find an injured man in the driveway. The victim sustained multiple facial injuries and lost a tooth, and was transported to Akron City Hospital. Police interviewed witnesses, who said the victim had an argument with another man, and the two got into a fight. The victim had been knocked to the ground by the suspect, who then jumped on him and began striking him in the face. Officers located the suspect at his home and charged him with assault.
Police were seeking two males captured on video surveillance tape at a mall store Nov. 2, when one suspect took a pillow from a display and used it to conceal his hand as he opened a cash register and stole money. Employees found the cash drawer open after the suspects left. Employees released the video to detectives.
NORTON: Someone entered an unlocked garage on Durham Road the night of Oct. 23 and stole two bicycles.
Police investigated two reports of theft and criminal trespassing Oct. 26 filed by Shellhart Road residents who said unknown suspects siphoned gasoline from vehicles outside their residences. One man reported six gallons of gasoline stolen and another resident reported around four gallons were stolen.
A Shellhart Road woman reported Oct. 29 suspects stole three decorative frogs and one turtle, totaling $70 in value, from her yard.
Police are investigating the theft of a Jeep Wrangler from a yard on Summit Road during the night of Oct. 29.
Two males were charged with criminal damaging Oct. 29 following a road rage incident on Barber Road, where a female pulled her vehicle into a parking lot and a male followed in his vehicle. The male and a passenger in the female’s vehicle each threw concrete blocks through the windows of the other vehicle. Both vehicles were damaged and both males were arrested and released with court summonses.
Officers arrested a Greenwich Road man for two counts of domestic violence Nov. 1 after he reportedly assaulted his wife and daughter.
A Pamdon Drive woman reported Nov. 2 her brother’s girlfriend stole numerous items from her bedroom. The suspect admitted taking the victim’s clothing and belongings and selling some of them to a resale shop in Cuyahoga Falls.
RICHFIELD: Police signed a warrant Oct. 20 for the arrest of a Cleveland woman on charges of interfering with custody after the woman reportedly picked up her grandson, who is the subject of a custody dispute, in Richfield and took him to her home, despite a custody agreement prohibiting her from taking the child during that time.
A woman reported Oct. 20 she used her debit card to make a purchase at a North Cleveland-Massillon Road liquor store and later realized it was missing. The card was used at a Copley Road gas station within 20 minutes of her purchase, and suspects used the card at six more locations.
Police patrolling the intersection of Southern and Hawkins roads Oct. 22 observed a driver who failed to stop at a stop sign. The suspect refused to stop for lights and sirens and continued traveling 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. After running another stop sign at Streetsboro Road, the driver stopped. He had no driver’s license or proof of insurance with him, and police determined he was under a license suspension. He was arrested and released on a $250 bond.
On Oct. 23, police stopped a driver of a pickup truck with a loud exhaust system at the corner of Wheatley Road and Kinross Lakes Drive. The driver was asked if he had contraband after a K-9 officer alerted police to the presence of drugs near the vehicle’s driver-side door. After officers found heroin in the vehicle, the suspect admitted possession of it and told police there were unused syringes in the glove box. He was arrested for possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
The manager of a business on Farnham Road reported Oct. 24 attempts to collect money from a check used by a patron have failed. Police suspended an investigation after they contacted the suspect, who told them he filed bankruptcy and the amount owed the business was included in the action.
