AKRON: Between Jan. 4 and Jan. 7, suspects broke into three residences on Noah Avenue and stole money and a gold ring from one and money and a video game from another.

On Jan. 5, a Thurmont Road man surrendered to police on a warrant for aggravated robbery in connection with the robbery of a pizza delivery driver the previous week. Two females who arranged for the victim to be at the address where the suspect robbed him were previously arrested for aggravated robbery.

Police responded to a Jan. 7 call regarding a man with a weapon at a Nome Avenue residence. Officers arrested a resident for having a weapon under disability (due to a previous felony conviction that prohibited him from having a gun) after he admitted possession of a gun and gave police permission to search the residence.

BATH: Police stopped a driver for traveling 55 mph in a 40 mph zone on Medina Road Jan. 6. He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI. His BAC tested .261.

On Jan. 6, police investigated the burglary of a Crystal Lake residence, where suspects kicked in the front door. Nothing was reported missing. The same day, they investigated the burglary of a Wye Road residence, where suspects broke in and stole numerous items.

A Yellow Creek Road man reported Jan. 6 his ex-girlfriend took his dog from his residence without his permission. The woman returned with the dog but refused to give him the animal, saying the victim had some of her things. When the man returned her possessions, she reportedly still would not return the dog. Police ordered her to return the dog or be criminally charged. She complied and was given a verbal warning not to return to the residence or she would be charged with trespassing.

Officers patrolling Medina Road Jan. 7 observed a vehicle travel across the center line and stopped the driver. He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI. His BAC tested .222.

A woman reported she left jewelry items in a locker at a Medina Road health club while she attended a swim meet Jan. 8 and forgot to retrieve them. The following day, the items were missing.

On Jan. 9, a woman reported she saw a man walk through a Montrose parking lot and kick her car. The suspect ran across Medina Road and into a restaurant, where police located him. There was no permanent damage to the vehicle, and the victim declined prosecution. The suspect was warned and released.

Officers were called to a disturbance at a Springside Drive motel Jan. 11, when an employee said two males destroyed a room. Copley officers were there and described a vehicle in which one suspect left (the other man left before they arrived). Fairlawn police stopped the vehicle, and Bath officers arrested him for vandalism and took him to the Summit County Jail.  

COPLEY: A driver who ran a red light at Copley Circle Jan. 3 failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI.

Police were called to a Rothrock Road motel Jan. 3, when a desk clerk reported an employee showed up late for work and became verbally abusive, attempting to start a fight. When she refused to fight, he reportedly grabbed her by the hair and pushed her. Videotape of the incident verified her report. He was arrested for assault and released with a court summons.

Two males who were involved in a physical altercation after their vehicles nearly collided in a Montrose parking lot Jan. 3 were arrested for disorderly conduct.

Officers investigated the burglary of a South Cleveland-Massillon Road residence Jan. 4, when suspects entered the residence through a garage that was under construction and stole a TV.

Suspects damaged the outside of a Copley Circle restaurant Jan. 5 by spray-painting the building near the drive-through window.

On Jan. 7, police killed and removed an apparently rabid animal found near the doorway of a South Cleveland-Massillon Road business.

Officers were called to a Medina Road restaurant Jan. 7, when an intoxicated customer argued with employees and refused to pay his tab. The suspect reportedly was uncooperative with police and refused orders to quiet down, and he was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to a detoxification center at St. Thomas Hospital.

Suspects broke into a vehicle outside a Montrose theater Jan. 8 and damaged the steering column in an attempt to steal it.

FAIRLAWN: On Jan. 4, police investigated the burglary of a Miller Road office, where an employee arrived to find the glass door had been shattered and computer equipment had been stolen.

Following an investigation into the theft of five credit cards from a Miller Road office in November, police signed warrants for the arrest of two men in connection with the incident and arrested one man Jan. 6 after Akron police apprehended him on an unrelated charge.

An Akron man was arrested for shoplifting pants and a shirt from a department store Jan. 7.

A representative of a pharmacy that provides medication to a Smith Road facility reported Jan. 7 a vial of morphine sulfate was missing from a hospice patient’s room.

Police went to a Montrose discount store Jan. 8 and arrested a Canton man for attempting to pass an $87 check written on a closed account belonging to another person. The suspect had passed a check for $251, written on the same account, the previous day, and he was additionally charged with passing bad checks. He told police he was the victim’s business partner, then admitted he found the checks at a drive-through window in Canton.

On Jan. 9, the manager of a West Market Street toy store reported she noticed merchandise missing from the store, then received a call from Brecksville police, who had arrested two females and found the merchandise in their possession. Police retrieved the merchandise and returned it to the store. Charges were pending against the suspects.

A Chamberlain Road man was arrested for shoplifting merchandise from a department store Jan. 10.

NORTON: Police were reviewing surveillance video at a Wadsworth Road gas station Jan. 5, when a vehicle entered the lot and two of three occupants went into the store and bought merchandise using a $100 bill. After they left, an employee determined the bill was a $5 bill, which had been washed and used to print a counterfeit $100 bill. Officers investigated similar reports at businesses in a Greenwich Road plaza last week.

Suspects used a pick to damage the door of a vehicle parked outside a Hartzell Drive residence the night of Jan. 5.

An employee of an Eastern Road business reported Jan. 5 there were inappropriate pictures in a file on a computer in the workplace. The computer was taken to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to be examined.

Police patrolling state Route 261 the night of Jan. 8 observed a driver of an all-terrain vehicle without headlights speeding along the road, narrowly missing several vehicles traveling on the road. The driver refused to obey audible and visible police signals to stop and continued driving, running a red light at the intersection of South Cleveland-Massillon Road, before traveling through several yards and disappearing from view. Police located the crashed vehicle outside a house on Waldren Drive, where a woman answered the door and said the driver was her cousin. He was not there, and police signed warrants for his arrest for fleeing and failure to obey police orders, along with numerous traffic offenses. The vehicle, which police suspected had been stolen, was impounded.

RICHFIELD: Police responded to a call of a man with a weapon at a Brecksville Road trucking company Dec. 30, when two men said a man at the business pulled a gun on them. Police interviewed the business owner, who said the two men came to the business to repossess a vehicle and did not have the proper paperwork, so he told them to leave and speak to his attorney. Instead, they went downstairs and began speaking to other employees about the truck they were to repossess. An employee who heard the disturbance allegedly flung open a door and pulled a gun on the two, saying he felt threatened by them. The matter was referred to the prosecutor’s office.

Officers observed a reckless driver on Broadview Road Dec. 30 and stopped him for several moving violations. His driver’s license was under suspension, and he appeared to be intoxicated. He refused a field sobriety test, due to having a back injury, but staggered and nearly fell as he exited the vehicle. His BAC tested .001. Police observed prescription narcotic vials in the vehicle and noticed one had contained 60 pills and only 7 were left. He was charged with driving under suspension and evaluated by paramedics.

After receiving information that a man wanted on felony warrants was in a vehicle traveling on Medina Line Road Dec. 31, officers stopped the vehicle near Hawkins Road. The suspect provided his brother’s name, but later admitted his identity. He was arrested on the warrants and released to Cuyahoga County deputies.

On Jan. 1, police patrolling Streetsboro Road observed a vehicle at an intersection and noticed its stereo was so loud it was overpowering music coming from a nearby bar. Officers found the driver in possession of an open container of beer, and he was charged with having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and released on $250 bond.
