AKRON: A warrant was issued for a 22-year-old Copley Road female on charges of disorderly conduct, and a 21-year-old Columbus female was arrested for disorderly conduct July 5 around 1:40 a.m. after a fight in the 1200 block of Weathervane Lane that involved a golf club.
A 19-year-old Beechwood Drive man was arrested for possession of drugs and criminal trespassing and an 18-year-old East Avenue male was arrested for criminal trespassing July 7 around 8:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Copley Road when a business owner called police because of suspects loitering in the parking lot and selling drugs.
A female reported an unknown man approached her in the 800 block of West Market Street July 8 around 1:30 a.m. and asked her for money. When she said she didn’t have any, she said he grabbed her arm, forced her into an alleyway and sexually assaulted her.
A 28-year-old Myrtle Place man was charged July 8 with felony grand theft auto, willful flee, felony theft and driving under the influence. He reportedly was observed by officers driving 80 mph westbound on West Market Street, and failed to stop for officers, leading them on a high-speed chase. The vehicle was later found in an Eller Avenue parking lot, and the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated and in possession of stolen property, was found hiding.
Around 3 p.m. July 9, a male suspect snatched $30 out of a woman’s hand on the street in the 400 block of West Market Street.
A juvenile male was arrested for domestic violence July 9 at 4:45 p.m. after allegedly threatening his mother with a knife at a Crestview Avenue location.
Burglaries were reported at the following locations: the 800 block of Stoner Street July 9-10; the 1000 block of Delia Avenue July 10-14; the 1100 block of Victory Street July 12-13; the 1700 block of Gaylord Drive July 13; the 1000 block of Raymond Street July 13-14; the 200 block of McDowell Avenue July 13-18; a business in the 1300 block of Copley Road July 14; the 800 block of Lafayette Drive July 14; the 1000 block of Mangold Street July 14; the 400 block of Grace Avenue July 14-15; the 100 block of South Balch Street July 15; the 700 block of Mercer Avenue July 16; the 600 block of Minerva Place July 16-17; the 900 block of West Exchange Street July 16-17; the 100 block of South Rose Boulevard July 16-17; the 1200 block of Parklane Drive July 17; the 200 block of Stoddard Avenue July 17-18; the 1700 block of Delia Avenue July 18; the 1300 block of Alton Drive July 18-19; the 100 block of Goodhue Drive July 19; the 700 block of Dorchester Road July 19; and the 200 block of Merriman Road July 19.
A 19-year-old Belvidere Way man was charged with felony domestic violence, with previous conviction, and theft July 10 after allegedly chasing a victim into a neighbor’s apartment and punching her in the face several times. He then allegedly took the victim’s cell phone and money.
Two suspects forced their way into a vehicle July 10 around 11 a.m. at Balch and Crosby streets and reportedly forced the driver to drive to a nearby parking lot, where they robbed him of $20 and a purse and shot at the car as he drove away.
A female resident of the 1300 block of Shanabrook Road reported a male friend came over July 11 to borrow money, and when she gave him $500, he said that wasn’t enough, drew a gun, covered her eyes and mouth with duct tape and drove her to the ATM of a West Market Street bank, where she was forced to withdraw $5,000 in cash. He is being sought on charges of robbery and kidnapping.
A woman who was leaving her apartment in the 70 block of North Portage Path July 14 around 9:20 a.m. reported her purse was snatched. It contained credit and debit cards, personal papers and medication.
A female reported she was raped by an unknown male July 16 between 2:45 and 3:40 a.m. at a North Portage Path location.
Four male suspects allegedly entered a residence in the 1700 block of Cromwell Drive July 16 around 3:45 p.m. One suspect drew a gun on the male victim, who was forced to strip and robbed of a hat, belt, bag, personal papers and a CD player. Everything but the CD player was recovered outside.
A 30-year-old Crosby Street female was arrested for loitering to solicit prostitution July 18 around 6:15 p.m. at Crosby and Balch streets. She reportedly had warrants out for the same charge and admitted accepting money in exchange for sex acts.
A 19-year-old Colonial Hills Drive female was arrested for failure to comply with the signal of a police officer July 18 around 11:30 p.m. at Copley Road and Crestview Avenue after allegedly leading Cuyahoga Falls and Akron police officers on a pursuit.
Three victims reported they were robbed at gunpoint on a front porch in the 200 block of Oakdale Avenue July 19 at 3:05 a.m. by a male suspect who got away with $50, a cell phone and a wallet with credit and debit cards and personal papers.
Minutes later, two victims reported they were sitting on a front porch in the 70 block of Hawthorne Avenue when a male suspect approached and robbed them at gunpoint of a wallet, cell phone, $6, credit and debit cards and personal papers.
BATH: Police stopped the driver of a vehicle with an equipment violation July 13. After stopping the vehicle on state Route 18, the driver sped away, making a U-turn on the highway and heading sough on Interstate 77. Police pursued the vehicle into Akron, where the driver failed to stop at an intersection and police lost sight of the vehicle. Akron police later located it abandoned behind a building on Bachtel Avenue, and it was towed for investigation.
Detectives are investigating the theft of a 1995 Honda from a Cleveland-Massillon Road parking lot between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. July 13.
Officers on Medina Line Road stopped a driver July 14 for lane violations and arrested him for drug abuse and possession of paraphernalia. Police confiscated marijuana and a glass pipe from the vehicle.
Suspects toilet-papered trees, plastic-wrapped items and damaged a basketball hoop outside a residence on Autumn Leaves Drive July 15.
On July 13, suspects stole an iPod Nano from an unlocked vehicle outside a Timberline Drive residence.
Police investigated a report filed July 17 by a Montrose market employee who stated a couple attempted to pull a quick-change scam on a cashier but failed to get any money and left before police arrived.
A juvenile was arrested for shoplifting items at a Medina Road grocery store July 17 after employees observed her conceal merchandise in her purse.
Officers shot and killed a sick raccoon outside a Medina Line Road residence July 19.
COPLEY: On July 6, police patrolling Ridgewood Road observed a driver pass four vehicles in a no-passing zone and attempted to stop him as he continued driving and on Jacoby and Sugar roads. He also ran a stop sign at Ridgewood Road. Officers arrested him for driving under suspension. Charges of wrongful entrustment were pending against the vehicle owner.
The manager of a South Cleveland-Massillon Road automotive business reported July 7 a $1,500 air dryer was stolen from a trailer at the business while he was on vacation.
A South Cleveland-Massillon Road man reported July 8 he received 167 unwanted phone calls from his former girlfriend in one day.
Suspects smashed the windshield of a vehicle at a Copley Road location July 9.
Police were called to a Copley Road apartment July 11, when they arrested a man for domestic violence, aggravated menacing and unauthorized use of a vehicle and took him to the Summit County Jail. The suspect reportedly borrowed a neighbor’s vehicle and failed to return it on time, then chased her with a claw hammer when she confronted him about it. When the suspect’s father attempted to intervene, the suspect released his pit bull dog, which bit the victim’s knee. Police called the Humane Society of Greater Akron to take the dog after the suspect locked it in a bathroom, and police were concerned the dog would be there for at least three days without food or water.
On July 11, officers stopped an erratic driver on Montrose West Avenue. She said she had no driver’s license and no Social Security number and admitted she was in the country illegally. Police called government agents, who spoke to the suspect, then advised officers to take her to the Summit County Jail.
Officers patrolling Copley Road July 12 stopped a driver and arrested him for driving under more than 30 license suspensions. He was released to Macedonia police on a warrant.
Police arrested a Ridgewood Road teen for domestic violence July 13 and took him to a juvenile detention facility after he smashed items in his home and threatened to kill family members.
Officers investigated an occupied suspicious vehicle at the cul-de-sac on Heritage Center Drive the evening of July 14 and arrested two women for possession of marijuana. One was additionally charged with possession of a drug pipe.
Suspects threw eggs at a house and garage on Hametown Road July 15.
Detectives are investigating the theft of a 2005 Saturn from the driveway of a residence on Green Gable Trail between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 15.
A Millhaven Drive resident reported July 16 that suspects shot a pellet through the screen and window of the home.
Police investigated a report of vandalism in the parking lot of a Kirkwall Drive residence July 16, when suspects made six large dents on the roof of a vehicle. Police lifted finger and palm prints from the vehicle’s rear window and doors.
Officers investigated a report of felony theft at an automotive business on Copley Road July 17, when a manager reported a special dealer license plate was stolen from a vehicle in the parking lot.
Officers responded to a call of burglary in progress at a Marilyn Drive residence July 19. The caller told police he came home to find a side garage door open and a window broken. Police determined there was no one in the home, and the victim reported numerous tools had been stolen.
FAIRLAWN: On July 8, police arrested a home health care worker for theft in connection with theft of a bank envelope containing $600 from a Mackinaw Road residence where she worked last January.
An employee of a West Market Street bank reported July 13 a man who cashed a check for $200 was accidentally given $800 by a teller, and he has not returned the additional $600 to the bank.
A woman reported suspects stole two flowerpots and a plant from her father’s grave at a West Market Street cemetery July 14.
On July 14, officers charged an employee of a mall department store with theft after she under-rang merchandise for a male customer, causing a loss to the store of more than $800. The incident was captured on surveillance video July 1, and police signed a warrant for felony theft against the suspect July 10 and later arrested her at her home. Charges were pending against the male.
Security agents at a Montrose discount store reported a man pushed a cart full of merchandise out of the store without paying for it July 15 and left in a vehicle. Police stopped the suspect on Interstate 77, and he admitted taking the items. He was arrested for theft.
An employee of a mall fur store reported he received six harassing phone calls within an hour July 16 from a male and female who accused him of killing and abusing animals.
An Illinois woman reported the rear window of her vehicle was shattered July 16 while the vehicle was parked in the lot of a West Market Street restaurant.
NORTON: A Hillcrest Avenue man reported July 7 an unknown suspect in Israel made Internet purchases using his credit card information.
Officers patrolling Interstate 76 July 8 stopped a driver for a traffic violation and noticed an odor of alcohol about the driver. She was ordered to spit out an item she placed in her mouth, but she began chewing it and attempted to swallow it. Officers extracted it and found it was a rock of crack cocaine. She failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI, driving under suspension, abuse of cocaine, tampering with evidence and carrying a concealed weapon. She was transported to the Summit County Jail and police confiscated cocaine and a knife that was found in the vehicle.
Police investigated the burglary of a Barber road storage unit July 8. The victim reported he showed bedroom furniture to a woman while it was in the unit on June 14. When she agreed to purchase it, he returned to the storage unit with the buyer June 28 and found it was empty. Suspects had taken the bedroom furniture along with living room furniture, a flat-screen TV, lamps and other items.
Suspects damaged a cover of an electrical box at a pool house on Clubside Drive July 9 and stole fuses.
Suspects damaged a mailbox outside a Hametown Road residence July 11.
Detectives are investigating the burglary of a construction office on Summit Road July 15, when suspects entered an office and stole a laptop computer, TV, radio and other items. Police found pry marks on the doors and a neighboring business owner said his alarm sounded around 5:30 a.m.
On July 15, an Oak Street woman reported a male who had been told to stay off her property and away from her son was at her home at 3:30 a.m. when she awoke to the sound of banging on the side of her house. She said she has posted “no trespassing” signs. Officers contacted the suspect and told him he would be charged with criminal trespassing if he went to the home again.
Officers were called to a Summit Road residence July 16, when several witnesses reported a neighbor, who became upset while attending a party, went home and fired shots from a 12-gauge shotgun in his back yard. Officers interviewed the male and two others in his home and arrested him for inducing panic, using weapons while intoxicated and tampering with evidence. Police removed several firearms from the home for safekeeping.
RICHFIELD: Police responded to an anonymous 9-1-1 call from a Brecksville Road bar and restaurant July 7 and found a highly intoxicated male sitting in the parking lot. He admitted he accidentally struck a bartender by throwing up his hands when she refused to serve him. The victim left before police arrived, but a witness told officers the male also overturned chairs and tables on the patio. Officers charged the 20-year-old suspect with underage drinking and disorderly conduct.
A woman went to the police station July 7 to report a co-worker, who she fears attempted to run over her in the parking lot of the business where the two work, and she wanted the incident documented.
Officers patrolling Broadview Road July 9 stopped an erratic driver in the parking lot of a grocery store and noticed an odor of alcohol in the vehicle. The driver attempted to exit the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle. The suspect’s BAC tested .236.
Officers patrolling a construction zone on Interstate 77 July 10 stopped a driver who reportedly left the scene of an accident on the highway, where he sideswiped a truck. The driver told police he was unaware he struck the other vehicle. His speech was slurred and he appeared intoxicated. He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI and lane violations. His BAC tested .188.
