WEST AKRON: Burglaries occurred at the following locations: the 1700 block of East Waterford Court June 16-21; the 200 block of Grand Avenue June 20-21; the 800 block of Mark Drive June 21; the 1100 block of Crestview Avenue June 22; the 1000 block of Yukon Avenue June 22; the first block of North Valley Street June 22-23; the 1100 block of Madrid Drive June 22-23; the 100 block of Burton Avenue June 22-23; the 900 block of Packard Drive June 23; the 300 block of Harcourt Drive June 23; the 1300 block of Weathervane Lane June 23; the 900 block of Mercer Avenue June 24; the 1500 block of Treetop Trail June 24; the 100 block of Kenilworth Drive June 24; and the first block of Mount View Avenue June 24-25.
A 38-year-old Crestview Avenue man was charged with felony burglary and assault June 21 after he allegedly kicked in the front door of a Hardesty Boulevard residence and assaulted the victim inside.
Shortly before 8 p.m. June 24, an employee of a store in the 1300 block of Copley Road reported being robbed. The employee reported three males armed with handguns entered the store and demanded money. The suspects took an unreported amount of money from the safe and register, clothing from a display rack and the victim’s cell phone. One suspect pistol-whipped the victim before fleeing. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics. The suspects are three black males wearing black and white long T-shirts. Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 330-375-2490.
A 22-year-old Tarbell Street woman was charged with felonious assault, domestic violence and felony tampering with evidence June 24 after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend with a knife during an argument and then hid the knife before police arrived. The victim was transported to Akron General Medical Center, where his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 30-year-old Vernon Odom Boulevard man. Around 10:30 p.m. June 25, the victim was found with an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot of an apartment in the first block of South Rhodes Avenue. No other information was available.
Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred around 4 a.m. June 26. Three victims were shot following an altercation inside a house in the 400 block of Bacon Avenue. The victims — two 19-year-olds and a 28-year-old — were transported to Akron General Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Officers received consent to search the basement where the shootings took place and found drugs and drug paraphernalia. The 40-year-old homeowner was charged with felony drug abuse, obstructing official business and possession of drug paraphernalia. The shooting remains under investigation.
A 30-year-old North Hawkins Avenue man was charged June 27 with carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property, both felonies, as well as possession of marijuana and assault after he was found to be in possession of a gun while arguing and making threats toward several people. A 19-year-old New York male also was charged with felony carrying a concealed weapon after he was observed with a gun during the argument.
BATH: Police patrolling the parking lot of a Montrose grocery store June 20 stopped a driver following a registration check and arrested her on multiple warrants.
Following a registration check of a vehicle on North Cleveland-Massillon Road June 20, police arrested a woman for driving under suspension. She was additionally charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia after a tow inventory of the vehicle revealed several narcotic tablets and a pill grinder.
On June 20, police responded to reports of fireworks being ignited outside a Smith Road residence and found two males lighting fireworks in violation of the law. One man was a former resident of the home and had been banned from the property. Both males were arrested for discharging fireworks, and property owners asked that the suspect who was trespassing be given another trespass warning.
Police found a woman slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle that was sitting with its engine running at the intersection of Ira and North Cleveland-Massillon roads June 21. After some difficulty, officers were able to wake her. She was unable to perform field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. Her BAC tested .315.
Officers patrolling Montrose around 2 a.m. June 23 followed a suspicious vehicle slowly driving behind a grocery store and stopped the driver, who failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested for DUI and his BAC tested .186. Police found an empty vodka bottle and beer can in the vehicle.
A Shade Road woman called police June 25 when she argued with her uncle. She asked that police tell him to leave and advise him he would be arrested if he returned to her property.
A Canterbury Road man reported June 26 an unknown suspect scattered roofing nails at the end of his driveway.
Officers investigated a vehicle crash on Green Drive around 3 a.m. June 26, when a female attempted to walk away from a vehicle that had gone into a ditch. She failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI. Her BAC tested .2.
Suspects scratched the hood and sides of a vehicle while the owner was at a North Cleveland-Massillon Road restaurant June 26.
A driver stopped for lane violations on Medina Road June 26 was arrested for driving under suspension and released with a court summons.
Suspects entered an unlocked garage on Top-O-Hill Drive June 27 and stole lawn equipment.
A woman was arrested for shoplifting items from a home improvement store on North Cleveland-Massillon Road June 27. She was additionally charged with providing false identity to police.
COPLEY: Suspects broke the window of a vehicle at a Sunnyacres Road location June 15 and stole audio equipment.
A driver stopped for lane violations on Goodenough Drive June 17 failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI. His BAC tested above the legal limit.
Police investigated the theft of a BMW from the driveway of a Kensington Way residence June 18. The vehicle manufacturer activated a tracking system in the vehicle but was unable to locate the vehicle, which was later found on Bridlewood Drive.
Suspects broke into a vehicle outside a Bridlewood Drive residence and stole a GPS unit.
A construction worker reported June 19 suspects smashed a window of a vehicle outside a Rothrock Road motel and stole a golf bag and clubs, GPS unit and cell phone.
Suspects entered a vehicle outside an Aberth Drive residence June 19, removed the stereo system and stole keys and a $500 remote-control toy.
An Akron man surrendered to police on a charge of communication harassment June 19 after his ex-girlfriend reported he repeatedly called her and showed up at her residence, threatening to harm her and her current boyfriend.
On June 20, officers stopped a driver on Lakeland Avenue, noticed an odor of marijuana and asked the driver if he had been smoking it. He denied it, then admitted it after police found marijuana in plain view in the vehicle. He was charged with drug abuse and released with a court summons.
Police responded to an accident on Ridgewood Road June 21 and located a driver and passenger outside the vehicle. The driver said he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Witnesses reported he threw a bag out the window of the vehicle, which smelled of marijuana, but the driver denied throwing anything out the window, then admitted he did. Police found the bag containing marijuana in a tree and located another container of marijuana in the vehicle. The driver was charged with possession of drugs after he admitted the marijuana was his. The driver and a juvenile passenger were transported to Akron Children’s Hospital for evaluation of their injuries.
A Fairlawn man reported June 21 he sold a vehicle on the Internet last August and had the license plates scrapped at a Jacoby Road location. On June 16, he received a traffic citation from a pole camera in Cleveland, which recorded the number of the scrapped plates on a vehicle that sped past the camera. Police entered information about the stolen license plates in a national database.
An official at Copley High School reported three summer school students were smoking marijuana on school property June 21. Officers interviewed the suspects, who were 14, 15 and 16 years old, and they admitted smoking marijuana and said another summer school student sold it to them. Officers interviewed him, and he denied selling drugs to them. Police reported the information to his parents.
FAIRLAWN: On June 14, Akron police arrested a man who fled from officers June 13 after he allegedly stole a shirt from a mall department store and stole his sister’s vehicle from a Copley location. Fairlawn officers called off the vehicle pursuit in the interest of public safety when the suspect drove recklessly and sped through neighborhoods. Officers signed warrants for his arrest, and Akron police located him the following day. While he was in Summit County Jail, he admitted stealing the vehicle and shirt and fleeing from police. He faces charges of receiving stolen property, theft, felony fleeing and obstruction of official business.
A driver stopped for a traffic violation on West Market Street June 18 was arrested for driving under suspensions and drug abuse after police found 9 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.
Police were called to a fight involving about 30 people at a West Market Street hotel June 19 after a woman reported a male assaulted her by grabbing her around the neck. The hotel manager reported the suspect was walking away across Ghent Road. Back-up officers located him outside a restaurant and determined the 20-year-old was highly intoxicated. He said he had a room at the hotel, and police transported him back to the scene, where the victim identified him. He was charged with disorderly conduct, assault and underage drinking. His BAC tested .355, and he was transported to Akron General Medical Center’s Montrose location by EMS.
A Kenridge Road man was arrested for domestic violence June 19 after his wife reported he punched her in the head and stomach several times, causing injuries. He admitted striking her after he found her conversing with another man on the Internet. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.
On June 20, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Chamberlain Road residence, where they arrested a man for domestic violence after he reportedly broke down a bathroom door during an argument and attempted to hit his live-in girlfriend with a belt. He and another man were charged with forgery when police found they had fraudulent international identification cards, which they claimed they purchased for $100 from a man on the street. Both men were taken to the Summit County Jail.
Officers responded to reports of a BB gun being fired by a suspect in an upstairs apartment on Chamberlain Road June 21. Officers confiscated the weapon and advised a juvenile who had been shooting it that it is illegal to shoot a BB gun within the city limits.
Employees of a mall phone kiosk reported June 21 a suspicious male placed a purse on the counter and a group of teens who were with him distracted employees. When the suspect left, three phones totaling $1,350 in value were missing. Employees told police the suspect had been implicated in several previous criminal incidents. Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a mall department store June 25, when the same suspect concealed merchandise and lied to security officers and police about his identity. Police determined he was holding a cell phone stolen from a Chapel Hill Mall store and had merchandise that had been stolen from other mall stores. He was arrested for receiving stolen property, misrepresenting his identity and possession of criminal tools (a pocket knife) and taken to the Summit County Jail on several warrants from the Akron Police Department.
A woman who reportedly concealed perfume and jewelry totaling $632 in value and left a mall department store without paying for them June 21 was arrested for felony theft and taken to the Summit County Jail.
Police arrested a man for theft by deception June 21 after he admitted he placed a bar code from a new video game on a box containing an old video game and attempted to return it to a Montrose discount store for $299. Employees detected the suspicious bar code and notified police.
Officers responded to reports of an intoxicated driver at the intersection of Miller Road and West Market Street June 22 and stopped a 20-year-old driver who failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI under the age of 21.
Suspects entered a vehicle outside a Chamberlain Road residence June 24, damaged the dashboard and stole a stereo system, GPS unit and MP3 player.
NORTON: A driver who sped past an accident scene on state Route 21 June 18 and narrowly missed a police cruiser was arrested for possession of drugs and paraphernalia after police stopped the driver and found marijuana cigarettes and two pipes in his possession.
The manager of a Norton medical office reported a patient came to the office complaining of pain June 18, and a review of her pharmacological record suggested she might be acting deceptively to obtain drugs.
Police on Interstate 76 stopped a driver for lane violations June 20 and arrested him for DUI after he failed a field sobriety test. His BAC tested .165.
Suspects entered an unlocked pickup truck outside a Hillsdale Avenue residence in the early hours of June 20 and removed a stereo system.
A driver who was stopped for a traffic violation on Clarkmill Road June 20 was arrested for drug abuse and possession of paraphernalia after he surrendered to police marijuana and a pipe. He was released with a court summons.
Police patrolling Greenwich Road June 22 stopped a driver who went off the road several times. He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI, drug abuse and possession of paraphernalia. His BAC tested .126.
On June 23, officers patrolling I-76 observed a driver tailgating the cruiser so close they could not see the front end of the vehicle. Police allowed the vehicle to pass, then stopped the driver, who failed a field sobriety test. She was arrested for DUI and possession of drugs and paraphernalia, which were found in her purse.
A Deerspring Drive man reported June 23 a trampoline blew from a neighbor’s yard across the street and slammed into his fence, damaging four $250 sections.
Police are investigating a June 24 report filed by a Norton man who said he received a call the previous night from a male claiming to be his grandson. The male asked him to wire $2,200 to an address in London to cover costs of an accident. He wired the money and later learned it was not his grandson who called.
Officers charged an Oser Road man with having a dog at large June 24 when his dog entered a neighbor’s yard, attacked a puppy and snapped at the puppy’s owner, who intervened.
A driver stopped for lane violations on Barber Road June 24 was charged with DUI after he failed a field sobriety test and his BAC tested .246. He was taken to the Summit County Jail.
RICHFIELD: A Brecksville Road business owner reported June 17 the driver of a red truck with a trailer made requests regarding what the business sells and expressed an interest in copper, then left. The owner asked for additional patrol around the business and said no one had permission to take any copper from the business.
Police patrolling Interstate 77 June 21 checked the registration of a vehicle with a temporary license plate and determined the driver was wanted on warrants. He was booked into the Richfield Jail and released to the Brooklyn Police Department. The vehicle was towed and impounded.
A Ridgeview Drive man reported suspects entered two vehicles in the driveway of his residence the night of June 23 and stole golf clubs from both. A third vehicle was ransacked, and a wallet containing identification and credit cards was stolen.
Around 6 a.m. June 24, an Oviatt Drive man reported he went to get his newspaper and noticed a vehicle sitting in the roadway with its lights on and engine running. A white male was in the vehicle, and he drove away when the victim approached. An hour later, the victim went to his vehicle and discovered the interior had been ransacked and an iPod and GPS unit had been stolen.
Also that day, police investigated a series of reports from Oviatt Road residents, who said vehicles in their driveways were entered, ransacked during the previous night or early morning, and items were stolen. One resident reported he and his son went to their vehicles in the driveway around 6:24 a.m. and discovered suspects had ransacked the interior of the vehicles. Cell phones and other items were stolen from both vehicles. A woman reported her neighbor called her regarding a vehicle break-in and she checked her vehicles and discovered suspects entered a pickup truck and two other vehicles in her driveway and stole a GPS unit and music CDs. Another resident went to the police station to report suspects entered a vehicle in his driveway the previous night and stole personal documents and money.
