AKRON: Suspects broke into a Rhodes Avenue business Sept. 17 and stole a water heater and copper pipes.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at a Copley Road store at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 18 and arrested three teens they found in the building. The suspects had broken into the business through a vent in the roof. All three were charged with breaking and entering, obstruction of official business and possession of criminal tools. One 18-year-old was taken to the Summit County Jail and two 17-year-olds were additionally charged with curfew violations and taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility.

On Sept. 18, police responded to a report that shots were fired and found a man had been shot to death in a parking lot on Virginia Avenue. Following an investigation, detectives arrested a 26-year-old Akron man for aggravated robbery and aggravated murder Sept. 22.

Suspects entered a window of a Hawkins Avenue residence Sept. 18 and stole money, electronic games and credit cards.

A Delia Avenue man stopped for a traffic violation on Diagonal Road Sept. 20 was arrested for forgery. Police confiscated a counterfeit $50 bill.

Following an investigation into the shooting death of a 23-year-old man, police, along with SWAT officers, entered a residence on Royal Place Sept. 21 and arrested a man found hiding in a crawl space on two counts each of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery. The suspect was wanted in connection with the shooting of a man found dead in a vehicle outside a Delia Avenue market the evening of Aug. 16. The suspect reportedly also admitted killing a second victim during another robbery on Dayton Street, where the suspect confronted two males and attempted to rob them of drugs and money. The victims fought back and the suspect fired shots, fatally wounding one man. Police found him lying in the yard of a vacant house. A female at the residence on Royal Place was arrested for obstructing justice for hiding the suspect. She also was charged with having a weapon under disability when police found a gun in her residence and determined she had been convicted of a felony.

Officers arrested a West Market Street man for aggravated robbery Sept. 22 after the suspect reportedly entered a South Main Street Bank, announced he had a bomb and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. A witness followed the suspect and called police, who apprehended him several blocks away and took him to Summit County Jail.

BATH: Suspects smashed a window of a vehicle outside a Haskell Drive residence Sept. 15 and damaged a cord inside the vehicle. Nothing was reported missing.

Police investigated the burglary of an Everett Road residence Sept. 15, when suspects entered and stole jewelry and personal photos.

A Dogwood Lane woman called police Sept. 16 when she came home to find that two aggressive dogs in her driveway would not allow her to exit her vehicle. When police arrived, one dog jumped against the cruiser, then jumped 42 inches in the air in an attempt to bite an officer, according to the police report. Police called the county animal control unit, who took the dog to an animal shelter. Officers were attempting to locate the dog’s owner.

Employees of a North Cleveland-Massillon Road home improvement store reported Sept. 16 they observed a male take a pressure washer from a shelf and attempt to return it for a refund. When he was refused, he took the item and left without paying for it. When a security officer confronted him outside the store, he reportedly shoved the officer, dropped the item and fled across the street to a parking lot of an office supply store, where police arrested him for robbery.

A Ghent Road business owner reported Sept. 17 an employee used his business debit card to make unauthorized purchases.

On Sept. 17, officers on Springside Drive stopped a driver of a vehicle when the license plate did not match the vehicle. He was arrested for driving under suspension and released with a summons to appear in court.

Police patrolling Medina Road Sept. 18 observed a passenger of a vehicle throw a can out the window and stopped the driver. He was arrested for driving under suspension and released with a summons. Officers warned the passenger about littering.

A woman arrested in Portage County on an unrelated charge Sept. 19 was released to Bath police on a warrant for theft. She was charged and taken to Summit County Jail.

Officers patrolling Knollwood Lane Sept. 21 observed a man sleeping by the rear door of a church. He provided false identity and was charged with obstructing official business and released to Brooklyn police on a warrant.

COPLEY: Police were called to a fight at a party on Aberth Drive Sept. 7 after witnesses reported a male had sustained facial injuries. The victim told police a man struck his vehicle as he backed out of the driveway, and when he told the suspect about it, the suspect slammed the victim’s face against the driveway and left. Officers located him at his home and arrested him for assault.

A Hunt Club Drive resident reported suspects threw a large rock through the window of a vehicle and stole an iPod Sept. 11. Police found the rock in the back seat of the vehicle.

Police responded to the scene of a traffic accident on Cliffside Drive Sept. 13 and determined the driver left the scene. Officers located the driver and passenger and charged both with underage drinking and possession of marijuana.

Suspects stole a large picnic table from outside the Copley Community Center, on Sunset Drive, Sept. 16.

Two bicycles, totaling $500, were stolen from a shed outside a Camellia Drive residence Sept. 16.

An Oakmont Drive man reported Sept. 16 suspects used his credit card numbers to make unauthorized purchases, totaling more than $500, via the Internet.

Police investigated a Sept. 16 report stating suspects stole four paychecks from a desk drawer at a group home on Jacoby Road.

Suspects smashed the window of a vehicle in the parking lot of Copley Community Park, on Copley Road, Sept. 18 and stole a purse. The victim said her purse was on the floor of the front seat and it was covered by an umbrella. She had parked her car and walked her dog for 45 minutes.

FAIRLAWN: A woman reported she parked her vehicle at a West Market Street gas station Sept. 11 and returned four minutes later to find her purse and cell phone had been stolen from the front seat of her vehicle (reported last week). Police reviewed videotape of the gas station parking lot, and observed a white male enter the vehicle, take the purse and leave in a vehicle. Officers located the suspect driving on West Market Street, in West Akron, and attempted to stop him. He fled in the vehicle, ran a red light at Pershing Avenue and crashed the vehicle. Akron police assisted when the suspect fled on foot. He was apprehended by officers, who found the victim’s belongings in the vehicle along with numerous items stolen from other victims. The suspect admitted taking the victim’s possessions and stealing items from victims in Akron. Fairlawn police charged him with theft. Additional charges were pending in Akron.

On Sept. 15, police investigated the burglary of a vehicle outside a Stanley Road residence where suspects stole sunglasses, a flashlight and clasp. In the yard, officers found a briefcase stolen from a vehicle outside a Bancroft Road residence around the same time.

Police stopped a driver for a lane violation on Interstate 77 Sept. 15 and charged him for driving without a license and held him on a warrant from Akron. A 5-year-old child in the vehicle was released to his mother, whom police drove to the police station. When officers determined the woman also was wanted on a warrant, the child was released to a relative and the parents were released to Akron police.

An Akron woman was arrested Sept. 16 for shoplifting eight pairs of underwear from a West Market Street discount drug store. She was released with a summons to appear in court.

Suspects stole a bicycle and accessories from an unsecured garage of a Court Street condominium Sept. 16.

Also on Sept. 16, a West Market Street gas station owner reported an employee resigned and refused to return a company-owned cell phone. The same day, the owner arrived at work to discover three business checks were missing.

Service department workers found a TV in a ditch along Sand Run Parkway Sept. 17.

NORTON: A Harper Avenue man reported a strange man was pounding on his door around 2 a.m. Sept. 18. Officers determined the man was highly intoxicated and was at the wrong house. He was arrested for disorderly conduct by intoxication and released to a relative.

Police arrested a woman for shoplifting items from a Greenwich Road grocery store Sept. 19. She was additionally charged with criminal trespassing because she had been banned from the store.

Suspects broke into a storage facility on Summit Road the night of Sept. 19 and stole numerous items, including tools, a nail gun, saws and a hydraulic pump.

A Greenwich Road man went to the police station Sept. 19 to report his wife was angry because he refused to drive her to Akron to purchase some crack cocaine, and she threatened to accuse him of domestic violence. Officers advised the man to stay somewhere else for the night.

Employees of a Greenwich Road grocery store reported Sept. 20 a man took a bottle of vodka from a shelf and left without paying for it. When he was confronted outside the store, he fled on foot. Police identified the suspect as a man who was arrested for stealing liquor from the same store in May, and he was banned from the store. Officers signed warrants against the suspect for theft, criminal trespassing and violation of liquor laws.

Suspects entered a Luray Drive residence through the kitchen Sept. 21 and ransacked several rooms and stole CD players, two TVs, two laptop computers, sound mixers and other electronic items.

Police arrested a Givens Drive man Sept. 21 after his live-in girlfriend reported he assaulted her when she returned home by dragging her out of a van by her legs, then carrying and dragging her until she broke free and ran to a neighbor’s house to call police. The suspect was charged with assault.

A Norton Avenue woman reported a young woman dropped three cats outside her residence Sept. 21 and then left in a vehicle. Police advised her to call the Humane Society of Greater Akron or county animal control officers if she does not want the cats, and notify officers if she sees the suspect or vehicle again.

On Sept. 21, a Sherman Street woman reported her keys, along with her vehicle, were missing from her residence. She suspected a man living at the residence took the vehicle.

RICHFIELD: Police officers investigated a report of criminal damaging Sept. 6, when a Streetsboro Road resident reported suspects damaged the windshield of a vehicle parked in the garage between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

A Motor Road resident reported Sept. 7 a neighbor, with whom she has had ongoing problems, assaulted her in the driveway of her residence. Police noticed bruises and scrapes on the legs of the victim, who said if the problems persist, she would file charges.

Officers patrolling Brecks-ville Road Sept. 8 noticed a man at the drive-thru window of a restaurant and determined he had been banned from the business. A can of beer protruded from his pocket and he had two wine coolers in his backpack. Police took him home and advised his parents he would be charged with underage drinking and criminal trespassing.

An employee of the Revere Local Schools District reported Sept. 8 suspects entered a garage and storage area on Streetsboro Road and stole copper pipes, aluminum pipes, a roll of copper wiring and scaffolding, totaling $2,500. It was uncertain when the theft occurred.

The driver of a tractor-trailer reported Sept. 8 an unknown suspect struck and damaged her freightliner while it was parked in the lot of a Brecksville Road trucking company.

Suspects attempted to break into a body shop on Brecksville Road Sept. 10 but were unable to gain entry.

Police were reviewing videotape at a Brecksville Road trucking company Sept. 11 to identify a suspect who stole a cell phone from an office.

On Sept. 12, police stopped the driver of a vehicle with fictitious license plates at the intersection of Interstate 77 and Brecksville Road. The driver denied having contraband, but a K-9 officer alerted police to the presence of drugs by the driver’s door, and officers found a bag of marijuana in the door handle and charged the suspect with possession of less than 100 grams of marijuana.

A patron of a Broadview Road bar reported a bartender punched him in the eye Sept. 13 after the two exchanged words and he insulted her. He declined prosecution.

Police were called to a Brecksville Road motel Sept. 13 by a woman who said she had been beaten for two days by a man with whom she was sharing a room. Police knocked on the door and were greeted by the male, who denied the allegations. Officers placed him in a cruiser so they could interview the female, who said the male struck her numerous times and would not allow her to take her anti-seizure medication. The victim declined prosecution. Police photographed the victim’s injuries and charged the male with felony domestic violence when they determined he had a previous conviction for the crime.

A Brunswick business owner reported Sept. 16 he was advised a female forged a payroll check from his business and attempted to cash it at a Broadview Road bank. When the teller became suspicious and asked to see identification, the suspect drove off, leaving the check behind.
