AKRON: Officers stopped a driver for a traffic violation on Fourth Street Nov. 11, and the driver and occupants fled on foot and ran into a nearby house. Officers established a perimeter around the residence and observed the driver throw bags of crack cocaine out a bedroom window. He admitted possession of the drugs and was charged with possession of and trafficking in crack cocaine and tampering with evidence.

A delivery driver for a Vernon Odom Boulevard market reported he was robbed Nov. 13 by a man who approached him from behind while he was making a delivery to a Fess Avenue residence, held a gun to the back of his head and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect a bag of groceries and an undetermined amount of money and fled in his vehicle. The suspect fled on foot.

On Nov. 13, police responded to two unrelated domestic violence calls involving knife injuries. The first occurred at a Nome Avenue residence where an 18-year-old male was stabbed in the wrist and taken to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment. The second occurred on Keryder Avenue, where a 19-year-old female sustained a minor laceration on her back and refused medical treatment. No suspects were arrested and police are investigating the incidents.

A woman reported she was robbed while she was using a bank machine on East Exchange Street at 5:30 a.m. Nov. 14. A woman approached the victim as she stood at the machine and tried to grab her money. The victim held on to the money and the suspect jumped into the victim’s car, a 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo, with a license plate of LEXI-101, and drove off.

A Balch Street man, who was arrested Nov. 14 for breaking and entering, felony fleeing, possession of criminal tools, obstructing official business and resisting arrest, is suspected of involvement in numerous break-ins of sheds and garages in the North Hill area. Police responded to a burglary call at a residence on Chalker Street and found the garage door open and a snow blower in the driveway. Officers pursued the suspect, who fled in a vehicle and led them on a high-speed pursuit that almost ended when the suspect crashed into a wall on state Route 8. He backed into a police cruiser to again escape, and the pursuit came to a final end at the intersection of Waterloo and South Arlington roads, where the vehicle became disabled. Police found in the vehicle numerous items stolen from sheds and garages. The suspect was charged for his involvement in the Chalker Street burglary and the pursuit and taken to the Summit County Jail. Additional charges were pending an investigation.

On Nov. 16, detectives arrested a 42-year-old man for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for having sex with a 15-year-old.

BATH: On Nov. 9, a Four Seasons Drive man reported suspects used a pumpkin to destroy his mailbox.

A Medina Line Road man reported Nov. 10 suspects entered the residence while occupants were sleeping and stole a TV that was mounted on the kitchen wall. The victim later advised police he had recovered the TV from a Cleveland location.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance at a Smith Road residence Nov. 12, when a male reported he asked his girlfriend to leave his property. The female left without incident and no charges were filed.

A Lake Point Drive woman reported suspects took a credit card from her residence and used it to receive four cash advances, totaling $865.

Police stopped a driver on Medina Road for a vehicle equipment violation Nov. 12 and arrested him for driving under six license suspensions and having the former owner’s license plates on the vehicle.

Officers assisted Fairlawn police Nov. 13 by pursuing a woman suspected of driving a stolen vehicle on Medina Road. Officers detained the suspect in a Montrose parking lot until Fairlawn officers arrived and arrested her. [See Fairlawn report for more information.]

A woman stopped for a vehicle equipment violation on Medina Road Nov. 13 was arrested for driving under numerous license suspensions and released with a court summons.

On Nov. 13, officers stopped a driver for a traffic violation on North Cleveland-Massillon Road and determined he had an order for license forfeiture through Akron Municipal Court. He was arrested for driving under suspension, and the vehicle was towed.

With assistance from Richfield police, officers located a missing juvenile at a Broadview Road convenience store Nov. 14 and returned her to her parents’ residence.

Officers investigated a report that a suspicious vehicle was sitting in the grass near North Revere Road Nov. 14 and a man was slumped behind the steering wheel of the vehicle, which was running. Police awakened the driver, who appeared to be intoxicated, and noticed his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. He refused a field sobriety test and was charged with DUI.

Police shot and killed a deer injured in a vehicle crash on Granger Road Nov. 15.

COPLEY: A Westview Drive woman reported suspects stole 10 political signs from her yard the day after Election Day.

Suspects smashed the front passenger window of a vehicle parked outside a Montrose home improvement center Nov. 6 and stole seven packs of cigarettes.

Police were called to a disturbance in a room of a Rothrock Road motel Nov. 8, when a woman in the room admitted officers to the room. A male roommate said another couple had become upset about the type of party that was going on in the room, and they left. When the female opened her purse to get her identification, a bag of marijuana fell out, and she was charged with its possession.

On Nov. 9, a Cobblestone Drive woman reported she purchased a Rolex watch through an Internet auction site and when she took it to a jeweler to be repaired, she was told the parts inside were not Rolex parts. She notified the Web site and was instructed to file a police report.

Police investigated the burglary of a South Cleveland-Massillon Road residence while residents were away Nov. 10. Suspects stole a handgun, chain saw and $200 in coins.

An Akron woman who was driving a vehicle that had only one working headlight was stopped on Copley Road Nov. 10. She told police she had no driver’s license and said her boyfriend owned the vehicle. Police determined her license had been suspended and she was wanted on a warrant. She was arrested for driving under suspension and released to Brimfield police.

A man reported he went to Copley High School to pick up a yearbook Nov. 12, and a man confronted him outside the school, punched him and smashed his cell phone on the sidewalk.

Officers called to a disturbance at a Linda Lane residence Nov. 13 arrived to find a female at a neighbor’s residence. She said she wanted a male at her residence to leave. The male left without incident and gave her back her keys and garage door opener. Police drove him to Montrose to wait for a ride.

FAIRLAWN: Police investigated a Nov. 10 report that an unknown suspect used a counterfeit check to purchase items at a mall store. After the suspect left, an employee noticed the check looked suspicious and did not have a watermark.

An employee of a West Market Street office reported Nov. 11 she was alerted that two suspicious males were in the office. She checked her purse, which had been unattended, and determined two credit cards had been stolen. Police located two males fitting the description of the suspects and found one of them had in his possession a briefcase stolen from another office building, but neither had the credit cards. The suspect was arrested for theft and released with a court summons.

An Akron woman was arrested for theft Nov. 11 after security agents at a Montrose discount store observed her conceal merchandise worth $42 in a bag and leave without paying.

Suspects broke the passenger-side window of a vehicle in a Chamberlain Road lot Nov. 12 and stole $12 in change.

On Nov. 13, police received a call from a man who said he was following a vehicle on Interstate 77, and he believed it was his mother’s car, which had been stolen from Cuyahoga Falls. Bath officers assisted by following the driver as she exited the highway and pulled into a parking lot outside a Montrose movie theater. When Fairlawn officers arrived, they checked the license plate on the vehicle, and it did not appear to be stolen, but police were suspicious when they saw that the steering column had been peeled and the driver’s keys did not belong with the vehicle. A check of the vehicle identification number determined it was the stolen vehicle. The driver was arrested for receiving stolen property and driving under suspension and taken to the Summit County Jail. A passenger in the vehicle was released to Jackson Township police on a warrant.

On Nov. 13, detectives were investigating fraudulent activity by suspects who swindled an Akron man out of $46,000, which was withdrawn from an account at a Fairlawn bank and wired to an unknown woman in Indiana. The victim said he received a letter in August offering him $2.8 million to set up a bank account in the United Kingdom. Over the past months, the victim sent money transfers to suspects who said the money would be used to pay taxes and fees before the victim could receive his money.

NORTON: A Barber Road car dealer reported Nov. 10 that cash and checks have been stolen from the company’s offices since March.

Suspects pushed open a window of a Fairland Road residence Nov. 10, failed to gain entry and kicked in the back door to enter. Once inside, suspects ransacked dresser drawers and stole a game station, games and jewelry.

A Sheridan Street man reported Nov. 10 an unknown suspect used his credit card numbers to incur numerous unauthorized charges totaling $1,220.

On Nov. 11, a Hawthorne Drive woman reported suspects stole a gold necklace worth $2,360 from her bedroom. She said there were workers in the home during the time the necklace was stolen.

Police investigated a break-in at a Reimer Road residence Nov. 12, when a woman reported she was working on her computer when her dogs started barking and she discovered the back door of her residence was open. Police were unable to locate a suspect, and they advised her to keep her back door locked, even when she is at home.

The owner of a Barber Road restaurant reported Nov. 12 a male repeatedly called the restaurant to talk to a female employee, who had told him not to call. She said the suspect called 10 times that day. Police advised the suspect to stop calling and told him the restaurant owner does not want him on her property.

Officers are seeking a suspect who posed as a city worker to gain access to a woman’s home Nov. 13. The victim reported a man came to the door of her South Cleveland-Massillon Road home, claimed he worked for the city water department and stated he had to drain the hot water from her tank. She took him to the basement, where he talked on a cell phone while he ran the water out. After the suspect left, the victim determined three bank envelopes, containing money, were missing from a spare bedroom.

RICHFIELD: A server at a Brecksville Road hotel reported Nov. 10 suspects stole two checks from her checkbook while she was working at a banquet. The checks were forged and cashed for $175 each.

The manager of a Highlander Parkway business reported Nov. 10 a job applicant who was not hired made a 27-minute phone call to the business and threatened bodily harm to victims at the business. A recording of the call was released to police, who attempted to contact the suspect.

The owner of a Brecksville trucking company reported Nov. 13 a driver used large amounts of fuel, which he charged to a company credit card. The victim said on one occasion at a Brecksville Road travel center the suspect used more fuel than the amount that would fit into the truck’s gas tank. He estimated the suspect had stolen $3,000 to $4,000 in fuel from the company and he wanted to prosecute. Police turned the matter over to the detective bureau. The victim called back to say the suspect made restitution and he declined to pursue charges.

Police observed a young female driving a vehicle with several young occupants and asked her to verify her age, due to new laws limiting the number of passengers teen drivers may have in the vehicle. She showed proof that she was 20 years old. Officers left the vehicle, which was parked in the lot of a Streetsboro Road convenience store, and went across the street. When the officers were gone, a young male exited the vehicle and purchased a 24-pack of beer from the store. Police returned and asked who in the vehicle was 21, and a male said he was. Police told him he must return the beer or get out of the car, because he could not supply beer for underage individuals, then they asked to see identification. He then admitted he was 19. Officers asked the clerk if she had checked his identification, and she said she had not because he had purchased beer in the past. Police advised her to check identification for all customers who purchase cigarettes or alcohol and then they watched the male as he dumped out the beer and threw the empty containers in a trash bin.
