To the editor:

[On July 28 and 29], Akron hosted one of the finest arts expos in the region. The juried show reflected a wide variety of artists and their original artwork. It drew people from all over Ohio. The Akron Arts Expo is considered by artisans to be one of the most organized volunteer-maintained and locally supported art fairs in the country.

A special thanks goes to Summa Health System and the city of Akron for their sponsorship, but more importantly, the people behind the scenes deserve recognition. The department of Parks and Recreation for the city of Akron, with Greg Kalail at the helm and Brittany Schmoekel organizing this event, worked together as a family. Each person in this department volunteered their weekend and many hours prior to the event to make it a memorable weekend for all who attended.

I believe this group at the Parks and Recreation Department win the award of “Best of Show.” Ward 8 and the city of Akron have much to be proud of because of your dedication and service to the city.

Marilyn Keith, Akron City Council Ward 8 representative
